So I played VF2 last week for a while with no problems. I boot it up today, same console and everytime I click a mode (versus, arcade etc) it gets stuck on the Player select screen. I added the screenshot below. The music still plays but I can't do anything. Ive tried it multiple times and I even played a couple different games in between tries. This is upsetting as I just start to get a bit addicted to this game!

And solution (sorta) has been found.
I deleted my saved data from my mem cart and next playthrough was just fine. Perhaps corrupted data. I guess Ill find out next time I boot it up.

odd...
Failing that, check or clean your laser lens on the top side just in case it's dirty and maybe causing a slight loading error.

That's why I said "failing that," which implies if it happens again in the near future, (at the time it was posted) then try the following. Oh... and I wasn't the one playing Virtuua Fighter 2, a waste of time asking me which version it might of been.

And i wasnt asking you what colour the disc was... I just didnt bother quoting him. Is this the standard sort of response for someone offering others help that have the knowledge to confirm the fault?

Quite an old thread here but my version is the US NTSC one with the purple disc coverart.
I recall the only thing that worked was deleting my save file. Then I had no problem. And I dont recall it happening again. Although I haven't played VF2 much since back in January.

Yes it happened to me a couple times back in the day, i figured out the deleting the backup data when i turned it on without the memory cart in there one day and it worked fine.

Make one mistake and you know what happens..., you can always guarantee the second one will be picked up immediately. Two bangs and you get something amusing. Derek is located in the USA aka NTSC, (see under avatar). Your question is a PAL related one so chances are he may not know what your asking... Yes there was a problem with the early PAL versions of VF2 not playing music on Lion's stage, it was later fixed and then printed on blue colour disc's in PAL Land. Unknown to me if the NTSC versions suffered the same problem as us.

I got it at launch here in Australia and my disc was blue, that question was just for my own info, nothing really to do with where he is or what they did or didnt get there, i didnt know either way if they got both versions or not.

So both the PAL and NTSC version had the freeze/memory error I gather from this. Hoping this doesn't happen often if I pick it up again.

It would appear so, however i never did figure out the 'why', or if it was just cart related, because i always had a cart in the console while playing if i was planning on saving.
Not sure what would cause it, but deleting the save game data for that game fixed it straight away.
NEO•GEO MVS machines do this at times and need backup data cleared or you get serious graphical glitches, always the first port of call on that machine whenever there is any problems.

The Saturn works in mysterious ways...
It may of been related to doing a soft reset from the last game you played, something was still in memory that conflicted with VF2?

Unless you can keep repeating the fault it will be a tricky one.
Some food for thought...
I know of one game that has issues depending on how it's booted. That game is Need for Speed. If you power your Saturn up with the disc in the drive so the game auto boots, it will not display the in-game on screen race map. Yet boot the Saturn with no disc in the drive so the start-up sequence plays all the way through going on to the dash and the put then game in, the in-game map displays properly!
That's one strange example of the Saturn not doing something just because of the way it was booted!
Another game, WipeOut 2097. Play that for a while and then open the CD lid to play something else and your find the CD drive will not work! The only way to fix it is to switch your machine off... So yeah, even a software glitch can make the CD drive look faulty.
