BTW Sega Rally in a plastic PAL case may not be as common as you think. If you find a nice one you may want to keep it for your own collection if all you have is the cardboard one. I got the plastic case version for free 2 months ago, probably one of my biggest scores so far. Virtua Fighter 2 was a real pain in the arse to get plastic, but I found one for a fiver last month, along with Virtua Cop 2's plastic case variant as well. While you can usually get most plastic case variants of games for the price of it's card one, occasionally you do get the odd sod who think's they're worth more- I've seen this happen with the plastic versions of Exhumed, Bomberman, Street Fighter Alpha 2 (one I really want as I have a disc only copy), Panzer Dragoon 2, Die Hard Arcade, Virtual On, and a few others which are pretty uncommon. Unlike what most believe, plastic cases came into use some time into 1997, not late 96/ very early in 97. A game which is pretty easy to track down in both plastic and cardboard versions is Manx TT, I think this was released right at the point they switched over to the plastic ones, sometime in late March, in fact it might've even been mid-97 when they first appeared. Also, I'm uncertain over this one existing, but was there a plastic case variant of Virtua Cop 1? At some point I think I've seen one, though it could be my mind playing tricks on me.

There was no Virtua Cop 1 plastic case version. You can find out whether there is a plastic case variant on Satakore.com The rarer ones like Exhumed and Die Hard Arcade go for substantially higher prices at auction. I sold an Exhumed for about £70 a few months back (99p start).

Virtua Cop 2 definitely came in both the cardboard and plastic case variations, as my local retro store currently has one of each type on sale - this game was released just before Sega changed over to using the latter, so I'm guessing they probably made two print runs. As for the original Virtua Cop, I believe this wasn't reprinted as late as 1997, or at least not for PAL territories - the Japanese version was presumably given a new 1998 pressing, since this game featured along with its sequel and the Virtua Gun in a pack that also included The House Of The Dead in timed demo form.
As for the person looking to use copies of Panzer Dragoon Saga for their double plastic cases, there are far cheaper alternatives out there, such as Command & Conquer, Riven: The Sequel To Myst and Deep Fear... Alright, most of these will still require you to remortgage, but you hopefully get the point! Also, I was quite surprised to learn that the Photo CD Operating System came in a double case. What possible reason could there have been for this, or maybe Sega intended to leave this space for you to put a disc of pictures as a way of encouraging the format's support?

Your best bets for a replacement double plastic case would be Command and Conquer, Atlantis or Enemy Zero. The former is pretty rare, though by far the cheapest.

It was needed for the French release as it was packed with an additional cd: Photo CD -Nymphéas. I don't know if they choose the case accordingly for all European releases, despite other countries do not have an extra cd packed-in.

Thanks for that - I suspected at least one variation of this must have come with a bonus disc of some kind! Your best bets for a replacement double plastic case would be Command and Conquer, Atlantis or Enemy Zero. I forgot to mention the similarly expensive Atlantis when I listed games with plastic double cases earlier...

I always loved that the US Saturn Library had the same cases from start to finish for visual and shelf consistency (and I really like them too when they are in good condition). However finding good condition replacements becomes harder every year. Used to be able to buy cases of sealed sports titles for a few bucks each. Now even the most common ones are $12-15 each.

I've noticed that the blank jewel cases I bought in bulk from Office Depot were really poor quality. The plastic felt so thin and flimsy, almost like paper. The jewel cases that my Japan Saturn and Mega CD games come in feel so much thicker and sturdier. I don't bother replacing them anymore unless they're cracked or damaged.

Yes it's hard to get good quality CD cases , you have to go to the shop and check them yourself. I have had some good ones off eBay but also some really floppy ones.

I thought I would just be able to buy the same CD cases that the Saturn JPN and US PS1 cases used in the 90s. Nope, cheap and flimsy now.

Actually a good bet is old music CD cases. I got a few free from a second hand music seller, he was happy to get rid of some crap.
