3D control pad's L trigger won't work

So my Saturn came in today, and I was super hyped. I fired up Christmas NiGHTS, loaded Claris' Spring Valley- and I couldn't turn the camera with the L trigger. Thinking it was just a bug, I played as NiGHTS, with no change. Then I tried it with Virtua Fighter remix, and still, nothing. It might be the fact that I'm using a US controller with a Japanese console, but all the other buttons work fine. Is there a way I can fix this?

Clean the contacts.

If it's not faulty then make sure you have the 3D pad switch set to the way you want to play the game before you switch the machine on.

+ = Digital D-pad. The whole thing will work like a normal controller.

O = Analog. Games made before 1996 will see the controller as a steering wheel. Virtua Fighter Remix was released long before the 3D pad was so you will need to use it in Digital mode.
