Hello fellow Saturn lovers I have been collecting Sega stuff for a few years, but lack of space have been preventing me from actually using any of it. Now, this is about to change. I have one model 2 PAL Saturn that is shining, unboxed and complete. I have one model 1 PAL Saturn that Ive been pulling apart (no chassi etc) so that I can use the swap trick without hinderence. I also own lots of original games in perfect shape that I love, like Burning Rangers, and also some games that I alegedly burnt in lack of owning the original - like Radiant Silvergun. Now, I also own a mod chip (see pic) that is (obviously) not built into a console. I now feel like I have time and money to build the optimal Saturn for gaming. The questions are: should I open my unboxed Saturn (heresy) and modd it? Or should I buy another console for this purpose? Which one should I buy? An american model2? Or japanese model2? What are the different things to consider here? Id like to play games at 60 fps. What happens if I f-up and build the chip into a console with an aged drive? Is the chip salvageble or can I change drives?

Depends how attached you feel to your model 2...having said that the installation of a Saturn modchip is quite simple and easily reversible so you shouldn't do any lasting damage to your console if you make s mistake (the chip just won't work) as far as if you were to buy another console guess it depends on whether you own an Action Replay 4 in 1 and whether your original games are from either USA or Japan although I would be willing to be they are PAL region...seeing as far as burnt games go you can use a tool called SRP to change the region of Saturn images so you can just alter them to whichever console you have.
Side note you can swap the PSU out of a model 2 pal unit into a Japanese or American console so you don't have to use a step down converter.
