Pretty much this. I have a cute little CRT solely for my Saturn. Yeah... not really. Framemeister with scanlines and RGB is going to look closer to a RGB monitor than a consumer set with composite video. Sorry. You can also have that nauseating 480i flicker. I'll enjoy my games looking more like 480P, thanks. So get an RGB monitor then; still cheaper than a Framemeister. And you only have to deal with 480i flicker on the few games that used it, everything else runs in 240p.

Saturn gamers complaining about cost. L O Llet's see, buy Burning Rangers and Shining Force 3. OR buy a Framemeister and Rhea, play those games anyway, and on a 60"hdtv. Tough call. So get an RGB monitor then; still cheaper than a Framemeister. And you only have to deal with 480i flicker on the few games that used it, everything else runs in 240p. Unfortunately those few games are some of the Saturn's best titles. Astra, necronomicon, VF2, Fighting Vipers, Last Bronx, Megamix, DOA etc.. I'm done with CRTs. I had a PVM, sold it after I bought the framemeister. Consoles are hooked up to the main entertainment center. Remember, you're the guys who brought up CRTs for no reason in a thread where the OP was asking about upscaling. You think he doesn't know what an old TV looks like? Probably a reason he's asking.

if you have relatively recent PC monitor with HDMI input you can use $45 RGB->HDMI upscaler from Amazon. I'm sure FM is amazing but on my Dell PC monitor the PQ is certainly good enough that doesn't warrant the extra expense for FM

Watch the first part of the video buck posted: www.youtube.com/watch?v=lHoOKLWIMKUBlurry in motion, 240P is treated as 480i.

He doesn't really do any research for his videos, just puts in the minimum effort for content. That's the same scaler. It deinterlaces 240P, again watch 6:30 - 11:30. They actually cover the issues it has.

Personally I think if I had room for a really good quality CRT (PVM, NEC XM or good quality consumer Trinitron) at a large screen size I think I'd grab one. Not like such screens are easy to find any more though, even if you do have the space. I couldn't really go back to playing on a smaller screen now though and modern TVs with good scalers have some advantages over CRTs too.

I'm interested in the OSSC as it seems to be a good open source project that can expand alot.

I think the CRT suggestions are valid, talking about response time and just having the real original feel. I'd like to have a PVM or a good quality Trinitron or similar.. but two big problems: availability and space. I've seen a few for sale, but the best collection only and too far away. And I just do not have room :-(
Upscaling to my LCD is the only viable option. I saw mention on that video that the FM might be getting an update soon. I'll keep looking for now and just put up with direct to LCD.

Is there a recommended FM re-seller in the UK? I'd like to check out prices.. I can see a few new XRGB-mini units on eBay ranging from about £260-290 plus postage £20-30. A bit reluctant to purchase from them though.

I don't have the space for CRT - heck I don't even have my study(man cave) any more - so had to do with my old Dell PC monitor. When I saw that Youtube I took a gamble and got the unit from Amazon - was far cheaper on Amazon than eBay for some reason - and at least for me it was money well spent. The PQ from Saturn, Net Yaroze, and RGB N64 are all great on the monitor and certainly good enough not to spend $300+ for FM. If I ever see one at far cheaper price on my next trip to Japan of coz I will grab one but till then the current setup is good enough for me.

It's all relative. I am currently practically living in a single medium sized room. Not much floor space left, every desk and shelf and table has stuff on it. Samsung UE40F7000 LED on one wall. 30" Dell monitor for my PC. Laptop by my bed. At the moment I have out a PS2, PS4, PC Engine and my Saturn. I'd like to add my SNES & PS3 but have to make some sacrifices! Got a server PC in one corner for streaming movies and shows from. 3 RAID boxes for various storage. Then there is the less important stuff like towels, clothes, a place to put down my keys when I get home. So yes.. I could squeeze in a CRT, but I'm just not willing to add even that And yes, my life is a mess right now.. but I could still afford the FM as a one-off treat if it is worth it.. which it does seem to be. And since I've previously spent thousands of quid on games and consoles, it isn't so much really!

Mental Note, sub-category(shopping-list): 1) Framemeister 2) House 3) CRT

He seems to be popular by having loads of videos on topics that people are searching for.

I've heard the framemeister is a terrible solution for 50hz games meaning it's useless for europeans pretty much
