I guess I should mention I didn't end up retrobrighting it at all Be glad you didn't do it, it would have been a waste of time and money.

Or the Jerome Russel 40 is the same stuff... already in cream form. Buy from the store, and slap it on. Good luck... Oh, and you might want some blacklight bulbs if it's overcast. Need all the UV light you can get.

Also just picked this up. Picked up the pal copy without RAM cart for $25pound $50Aud Then bought a RAM cart from Japan for $5 pound $10Aud! Including shipping I thought that was a bargain. So $30pound or $60Aud all up Mint copy with manual and Rom cart. Pretty happy with that. Especially as I do love my Fighters! That collection is getting better and better everyday! Nice. Damn, there's actually a PAL KOF with cart. You guys got some stuff that the US never got. DAMN.

The Laser is probably dead. Take the cover off and push the gears near the laser pickup to make the pickup go away from the cd spindle (where you press the cd into). Turn the saturn on, then press the lid button. Don't look directly into the laser from above. If the laser head is driven by the motor, it should go all the way to the cd spindle. It should start bouncing also. Then you can put in a CD and try the same thing. IF the CD spins, the laser is reading the reflection of the CD and pretty much means your laser pickup is starting to crap out. If it doesn't spin, it still could be a dead laser, but it could be other things also.
What I would do is use your other Saturns to do diagnosing. Replace the whole CD board/pickup assembly, which is easy to do. Hopefully, you have the same type Saturns. If not, then I would take a chance and buy a laser.
Just make sure the wire plugs and ribbons are in properly. If it's anything other than the laser or loose wires/ribbons, then you'll need a donor for parts anyway.

Try not pushing all the way down when you put it into the cartridge slot. OK, PUSH IT ALL THE WAY IN, THEN LIFT IT OUT ABOUT 1MM, OR VERY SLIGHTLY.
YES, I'M NOT MESSING AROUND. From my Backup Ram carts, to my 1MB and 4MB carts, to my PAR, to all of my consoles- I have 7 of them, they all need to have the cart lifted slightly or else they may work intermittently.

Have you tried cleaning the laser lens? Use isopropyl alcohol with some q-tips.
I personally believe to only rip and burn games you own, and many view downloading games you don't own a no-no. If you own these games, good. If you don't, to me, it's your prerogative and I'm not going to hold it against you.
But personal feelings aside, for me, it really doesn't matter what speed I burn at nor what discs I use, nor what speeds I rip at.
I've only had one coaster in like 150 burn attempts. I don't have 150 games, but I've returned some games because I've changed the artwork on the CD face a ton of times.
But what may really be happening is that your Laser assembly (pickup) is dying. The laser has an easier time reading a pressed official CD. Burned CD-Rs don't have as defined pits and grooves. A dying laser will progressively get worse and worse.
Why not just pick up a new Laser pickup like an Optima-6s and see if that helps. You can get one for $17 or so on eBay or $10 if you're patient from Aliexpress.
Your drive could also do something with it. Try burning with a different drive.

Anybody try an optima-7 laser pickup? I just bought a used Saturn from a local eBayer and instead of the 6s, I'm thinking of using the 7. Differences look like the metal body of the 6 has been replaced by a plastic body. Design wise, looks like it's been really optimized also. Maybe the weight savings will save on the wear and tear of the laser motor?

I'd just like to be able to find one that's free where I can avoid the malware. I guess I'm stuck with discjuggler. Catch22, have you ever tried loading your disc images onto a virtual drive and ripping them from the virtual drive? You might be able to save a bit of time and money that way. Never had an issue with malware using IMG Burn. I know for certain that the current loader does not have any adware. And yeah, damn, totally forgot about using Daemon Tools. LOL. I have a cake of 100 Imation cd-rs that's wasting away as now I just use Lightscribe ones, so doing it that way got me tunnel sighted as I try and eat away at it. You decided what discs you gonna use? Taiyo-Yudens or cheapos?

I was just gonna make videos on this... IMG Burn, the defacto burner and ripper. Rips to Bin/Cue format. For file conversion, I like just to burn the file to cd, then rip it using IMG Burn. As fas as mediums go. I've never had a problem with even the cheapest of CD-Rs, and it didn't matter on the burn speed either, but I kept it to a max of 12x. Only a few months ago, I thought this was a complicated process just reading about it, but it was as easy as using DVD Decrypter back in the day, and the format is the same. Personally, I use Lightscribe discs. You can get a Lightscribe drive- ones that came out of laptops for $7 shipped, and a slimline SATA USB cable for $6 shipped.

Skeleton Saturn bought for 9000 yen, and 6000 yen shipping from Buyee (Yahoo Japan). After fees, about $100.

No difference, both are model 1 saturns with the oval buttons. Try opening them and take a look underneath. The Saturns are very hardy and hard to break.
