I bought the game for my Sega Saturn. Had a lot of fun with it, especially with the action replay codes, free roaming in the driving section with infinite clock time. After a while I was able to buy a second-hand Playstation cheaply and that included a few games with Die Hard Trilogy, I thought; I've played it before. Exchanged it for another second-hand game at the local shop. Never thought of keeping the best version then . A little later I showed the game on the Sega Saturn to a friend and he said why I didn't go for the Playstation version, because it is much better . I wouldn't fret too much. The PS version had a better frame rate and smoother graphics, but ultimately it's the same game. You didn't miss out on a life changing experience 🤣

I remember all three being very difficult and the frame rate making it hard work. Must've been sub 10fps a lot of the time.
I also remember using the light gun on Die Harder. When you started using the machine guns you could barely see anything with the screen flashing so often.

Recently discovered there is a Panzer Dragoon remake, which got me hoping for the same for Saga. Fingers crossed. I still have never come across an RPG combat system I like more. Still my lasting impression of the game will always be that combat system. Like you its still probably never been matched. I also got the Panzer Dragoon Remake but have yet to play it. Limited Run Games did a Saturn case edition which was quite a cool idea. I of course picked that up and its amazing how perfect LRG matched the original US style cases. limitedrungames.com/products/switch-limited-run-67-panzer-dragoon-classic-editionI ordered the regular PS4 version. as a present for myself (LRG is quite expensive to import to the UK) and to support the initiative. I don't have the nostalgia for the US cases so decided against that version. Hope it looks great in your collection Derek.

It's the type of game that has dated the most in my opinion. While the graphics still have a rough charm, the slow frame rate, awkward controls and lack of quality of life features* are frustrating. It's not hugely fun anymore. * few save points, no auto-grab, lots of falling off ledges by accident, extremely thin margins for landing jumps etc etc. I read someone describe it as the Dark Souls of platformers, and I think that's a fair description.
If you can look past all that and put yourself in a 1996 mindset, it is still a well made game with a memorable atmosphere.

Such a lot of money for an average game that isn't even very rare- there's a dozen or more on ebay right now.
I sold my disc-only version on ebay via auction, early 2017, for £120, if that's a useful guide at all.

Unless you want them for a specific collecting goal, which is totally fine, they are absolutely not worth buying. Reasonable, quirky platform games that'll give you a couple of hours of entertainment each. Even as an investment, they could be a waste of money.
Apologies if I sound negative but I've been caught up in the hype of several very expensive Saturn games like these in the past, and really regretted buying them.
To put it in perspective, you could buy a brand new Xbox one or PS4 and a handful of top quality recent releases, to occupy you for many months for the £400+ they would cost. Or a huge stack of decent cheaper Saturn games of course. Or a holiday

www.forever-entertainment.com/en.panzer_dragoon_remake_i_panzer_dragoon_ii_zwei_remake_a01.htmlForever Entertainment together with SEGA Holding Co., Ltd. from Japan will co-create and publish Panzer Dragoon: Remake and Panzer Dragoon II Zwei: Remake. The premiere of the first part is planned before the end of 2019!
Panzer Dragoon: Remake is a refreshed version of Panzer Dragoon. The original version of the game had its premiere on the Sega Saturn console in 1995 and was well received by both players and critics. The entire Panzer Dragoon series has been repeatedly remade and released on many platforms. The last re-launch took place in April 2018 on Xbox One, where players can play Panzer Dragoon Orta with a backward compatibility. The new version of the game will be characterized by a completely new graphics compatible with today's standards and several modifications of the game, making it more attractive to modern players, while remaining faithful to the original in terms of story. The first materials from the game will be presented in the upcoming months!Talk about out of the blue news! Not sure if it's going to be a good kind of remake, but at least the Panzer Dragoon franchise has something going on. The big question is... does Sega plan to do the same with Panzer Dragoon Saga, and does it depend on the sales of PD/PDII remakes? That's exciting news. I wonder which consoles... 'the entire series has been repeatedly remade and released on several platforms' seems like a bit of an exaggeration to me. There was Orta, a Game Gear version, and the ports to PC and PS2. Am. I missing something? That statement feels more akin to Street Fighter or Sonic which have been remade more than the average bed.

Saga will never see a re-release unless they're able to rebuild the engine from the ground up. I'd imagine they'd pretty much rebuild the whole thing regardless, the Saturn assets would be so dated now anyway. And it's not as if people don't build brand new games all the time. If Sega think there's a market, there's no technical reason it couldn't happen. Would be fantastic.

Amazing levels of persistence and skills to work this all out.
This would get me to actually play Grandia one day.

Fun write-up Derek.
"One of the top 20 games of the year"* LOL
*for 1995 on the Sega Saturn Which had around 25 games released that year

Ahah, my lack of knowledge about "Platinum" stopping at 2010 shows how much I care for modern gaming Ha, I see. I'm still very partial to retro. Just bought Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection and the Flashback remaster, in fact. There is a heck of a lot of retro-style gaming still coming out today if that's what you're into.

Id imagine the capacitors would be the most common item to fail. I'm no expert but I'd imagine new caps should be available long into the future.
How long do the processors last, I wonder.
The laser drive does fail but these can be replaced with a fairly common CD drive.
