Well, you really don't need those dev kits if you want to make some (easy) great stuff, just grab the SaturnOrbit and read the examples to learn how to. getting the dev kits will not be a better/easier way for dev. Also don't forget you need more than one dev kit: one for the sound, one for the other parts,... and if you got them with the docs, it will not be so easy. To test your program, just mount your .iso and test it with SSF. In fact, I began to code for the Saturn some months ago. I never made saturn code, nor c code, but I now know how to do basic stuff (text, 2D backgrounds, PCM sample) [you will get a really great stuff soon ]. Examples are a really great help. Start playing with them, modifying them,... If you want to test your creation on a real saturn, you can burn the .iso or you can send a binary file (if not too big) to your saturn via an Action Replay+PC-COMM card (ISA slot). About the saturn libraries: there are the SBL and the SGL. Beware. Start playing with the SGL (easier and more recent). Also, all the SBL examples on SaturnOrbit will not compile correctly (this is what happened for me), so you can't test the compiled .iso. you must change some stuff in the compil process (something I don't understand as I am a noob on c). In any case, you can always ask people over at SX (check my recent posts there asking for help ).

Hi everybody! Some of you probably already know me, I am one of the webmaster at www.satakore.com (I maintain the code and the databases). I also made a tech database and a tool called SRP, a great Saturn Region Patcher that you can find at madroms.free.frYou have a great community here about our beloved Saturn, so I decided to join and participate

Grandia prelude is a great demo disc, not a 1-level only demo disc like Chizzles said. This is one of the demos that are interested to have, and easy to find (I have maybe 7 or 8 of it).

There are also some drawbacks on saturn ports of SNK and Capcom games: they keep the sound from the arcade so: 1) some audio tracks have some clicks/pops (like in Metal Slug and D&D) 2) some audio tracks don't have high frequencies like MP3s audio tracks (most of the Capcom arcade games)

ok, so for me it seems it is a problem with the lens or your original cd, nothing else. But it is strange that a cdr runs better than an orig!

Ok, so no swap trick for playing this game (JPN game on JPN saturn), so problem is elsewhere. Also, do you have a modchip installed ? And if so, does your saturn hang with any other game ? I already had a saturn hung randomly due to a bad modchip (which became bad after some times). Also, which model of saturn do you have ? (HST-XXXX + model 1 or 2). I can check my saturn and this game at home to see if it is a problem of compatibility with one specific saturn. You can also check if the audio tracks are played correctly on the bios (to go there, push and hold start or A or C button, I don't remember, at the moving saturn logo from the bios). Or push A+B+C+Start as soon as possible when the cd boots. also, see those cd's with the little brush on them for cleaning cd player lasers. do you think it'd be safe to do it on a saturn??? I think yes, you can. In fact, this exactly what does the US Sega Saturn cleaning kit. Ajmetz: your memory card was like flashed when you switched the power on and off, it is like your memory card got too much power (like when you sometimes switch your lights on and off) and was deleted. I am pretty sure this is what cause this behavior.

do you have the same behavior with an emu like SSF ? And can you rip it, then mount it and play it under SSF again ?
With your black screen, if you open the lid, does it go to the bios menu screen ? Did you also check if the disc has some holes ? Do you play at it on a EUR or JPN saturn ? With regular joypad ?
That's a lot of questions, but according to your replies, we can go in a way or another.

hehe, this golf game is great, and it's normal it reminds you of devil course: the japanese name of Valora Valley golf is The Hyper Golf ~Devil's Course~, so it's probably its successor (I didn't play the sfc game so I am not sure).

Hep, 2 Zork games came on the SS: Zork I and Return to Zork. Then they did a pack with the 2 games, called Zork collection (it is Zork I + a revised/bug fixes version of return to zork). Both of them are full japanese if I remember correctly. Both of them are also cheap to get, so try to get them complete (spin, reg for both and the goodies for return to zork).

To be honest though, I feel a little soft turning to guides. Maybe I need to experience what it's like to pull your hair out over a game for weeks on end, and then finally have a eureka moment(!). Having said that, I did the Snake puzzle in Atlantis all by myself. =D =( But I needed to turn to a guide to find that damn stick to knock the guard out with afterwards...it was lost against the background....never even saw it. I turned to the guide and it said to pick up a stick, and I was like: "There's a stick!? I'd walked about the whole place several times, and never noticed"...*Oooh the shame*=P Hehe, it is always the same with those FMV puzzle games. When I played at Jewel of the oracle, there are some part where I also never saw something on floor or wall, then after reading a walkthrough I said to myself: "hey, where the fuck are this or this ? I never saw them!". I understand what you feel in such a moment

you're welcome I am sad to read that you lose your saves Good luck for playing the game from the beginning again (this is something I never did when I lose saves, I am too demoralized by this). And let me know when you reach this puzzle again. I also have the walkthrough of frankenstein and riven on the same mag, if someone is interested

the solution was published by a french mag: playmag (playstation mag) but they also have a saturn branch and they did some special released called "la bible des secrets saturn". The complete solution of Atlantis can be found on volume 6 of these special releases. According to the solution and if I understand correctly (the mag is in B&W), here are the differences with the previous image: Move the cog accordingly. The smallest cog not golden must be at the far right. Then pull the left chord (probably 4 times). Let me know if it works.

I understood your problem I checked some mags at home and I found the complete walkthrough for the saturn version. Basically, the cogs must be placed at the same place (from memory as I read it quickly this morning) but you need to pull the left chord, yep (maybe 4 times also). I will check tonight at home with the mag in front of me and the picture I posted from your link, and I will tell you if the cogs are really at the same places. Btw, the old lady seems to be a witch according to my mag

If this can help you, here is how I determine how the cogs will turn:
