Nice and easy 2 way duel. Resident Evil is up against Deep Fear this week. Which will it be? As like before pick one and list your reasons why in the comments.
RESIDENT EVIL
DEEP FEAR

With its unique air mechanic, Deep Fear arrived just at the right time to serve as a great replacement for Resident Evil 2 on the Saturn, though the original received a fantastic conversion despite a few minor flaws, remaining an absolute classic that I'd recommend over Sega's own take on the same genre any day of the week.

Personally, I prefer Deep Fear. The only thing I don't like about it is the fetch quest at the end. Resident Evil was more about giving frights; while Deep Fear was more about creating panic and stress. Which is why I think the game has aged a little better than Resident Evil. However Resident Evil does have more replay value as well as various unlockables.

An easy choice.
But I do like Deep Fear too.

I'm going to be controversial and vote for Deep Fear. As much as I love Saturn Resident Evil, Deep Fear's underwater setting, quirky characters, and conspiracy story are slightly more appealing to me. RE is probably the better game - the puzzles, for example, are much cleverer and more complex - but to be honest, I had more fun playing Deep Fear. Still, both are worth playing.

Storywise I prefer Deep Fear and I find the characters much more engaging and interesting than in Resident Evil. Maybe it's the bad voice acting in Deep Fear that puts it over the top.
For gameplay, both are evenly matched with elements I like from both games.
But where Deep Fear excels in the story, the replay value is what I really look for in a game and Resident Evil tops the poll on that one. The Battle Mode alone is enough of a reason to come back to Resident Evil time and time again. It's has that option of slugging for the long haul or for a quick pick up and play and for that reason Resident Evil wins.

Resident Evil is probably my favorite game on the entire system. Although I don't like to make numbered lists so Ill just say its tied for #1.
So this was an easy one for me.
Deep Fear is cool, a Sega made survival horror game. To me Resident Evil just has the better setting, location, atmosphere, gameplay. And Im not sure if this will sound right but Resident Evil has the far better bad acting... I think people will know what I mean by that. The cheesy acting in RE is classic. The acting in Deep Fear to me is awkward. I do however love my official Sega US NTSC prototype version of Deep Fear so it had an added fun historical value when playing it. Im just more of haunted house guy than underwater or space ship horror guy.

Deep fear for me. resident evil 1 is for me one of the least fun resident evil games to play today. deep fear however has a tremendous atmosphere. better controls (with 3d controller), better soundtrack and better storyline.
also the puzzles in resident evil 1 mostly don't make sense like most resident evil games.

Resi 1 but I've never played Deep Fear, I think it got slated in reviews so I avoided it. Does it use 'Tank Controls'?

Indeed, Deep Fear uses the same tank controls as Resident Evil. In fact, the game plays almost identically. It wouldn't surprise me if it was running on the same engine.

Oh, nice! I actually like the Tank controls, it adds a lot to the tension of the series. I liked how in Resi 4 they tried to keep that some of the tension by forcing you to shoot whilst standing still, risking zombies closing in on you.

however deep fear can be played with the 3d pad and the tank controls get better because you can run, walk and aim at the same time if my memory serves me correctly. I remember it making a day and night difference.

I remember it making a day and night difference. checked it just to be sure and it is indeed so. when playing without the 3d pad you automatically halt your movement while running and changing direction. 3d controller is very smooth. don't know how it works on resident evil on saturn as I never played that one but be sure to play deep fear with the 3d controller.

Looks like Resident Evil vs Deep Fear is set to be a tie.

After seeing Deep Fear I was always curious why Capcom said the Saturn couldn't handle RE2.
