For the final poll of the week with have 3 Saturn racers all better know for their PSX versions. Laying on the metal scrap heap we have: Destruction Derby, Nascar Racing 98' and Need for Speed. Which do you prefer? Pick one and explain your reasons why below in the comments. DESTRUCTION DERBYNASCAR 98'NEED FOR SPEED

I'm going for The Need for Speed. I love the old Test Drive games and this game gave me the old feeling back in a next generation game. The tracks are challenging and varied, especially the Coastal and Alpine point to point tracks. The curves on the Alpine track can be seen twisting into the distance while the Coastal track offers up stunning beaches and steep overhangs. A pure drivers game, close as a racing game with some form of simulation.

I hear so many good things about Need For Speed. I wish I'd picked it up back on the day. Back then I'd always prioritise Saturn exclusives which was silly of me. Need for Speed is 1 or 2 players?

Im somewhat sure the original 3DO version didn't have multiplayer , while the later console versions did. that said , the 3DO version has that competitor driver who was so cheesy , in a "its so bad its awesome" type of way.

That wasn't a bad approach back in the day Sych. Aside from some notable exceptions (Lobotomy titles and maybe a handful of others) most of the multi-system titles were better suited to PC or were better on the PS1. Sega's exclusives were where your money was best spent by miles. Anyway, Need for Speed. I played the Saturn version for the first time recently and thought it was very lacklustre. I can of course see how it would have been a good, "realistic" driving experience circa 1995. The choice of real cars would have been nice, and the basics (frame rate, sense of speed, graphics etc) are fine for the time of release. But it really is dated now, you'd need to have a nostalgic attachment to enjoy it. You're basically driving forwards through samey, grainy terrain, with average controls and listening to tinny synthesised engine sounds. If you want a classic road driving game, go for Outrun. Or if you just want a sports car sim to play, get a recent Need for Speed game or any of the Gran Turismo series. And in my view it doesn't have the pick-up-and-play fun appeal the likes of Sega Rally and Daytona still have today.

Similarly to F1 Challenge, there's a little-known for getting the most out of The Need For Speed: All you have to do is disable the in-game HUD and use the bumper camera to increase the frame rate, while I'd also recommend turning on the hidden rally mode for more arcade-like handling that makes drifting possible rather than something you'll only experience for a moment before spinning out completely. As for Destruction Derby, I can remember being so enthusiastic about this game when it first arrived on the Saturn, but it's aged horribly - the graphics took a massive (and mostly unnecessary) hit, while the controls feel stiff whenever I try going back to this one. In a very distant third, I'd have to rate NASCAR '98 as the worst of this poll, which is remarkable considering how much I rated its spiritual predecessor, Andretti Racing. Yes, it looks slightly better and has new content, but there's just something that prevented this sequel from ever clicking with me... and I can live quite happily without having to suffer its horrible Americanised "redneck rawk" soundtrack again!

Need For Speed is a solid game. Nascar 98 is ok. The tires wear way too quickly which makes handling absolutely hideous compared to the AI cars. Nascar 99 on the N64 is infinitely better but still not a great game. I've never played Destruction Derby on the Saturn.

I've never played Destruction Derby on the Saturn. Im play DD right now and its pretty cool. Never played Nascar or NFS so i cant really choose between them. DD in PAL version workin cool, framerate is not so bad. Too bad that this port dont have multiplayer multiplayer mode.

Never played any of these on the Saturn, seems like NFS is the way to go though. Still might end up grabbing destruction derby as it was great on the ps1 back in the day.

NO COMPARISON REALLY...
Need for Speed owns this competition, hands down! Also, the Saturn version of DD is a bit rough looking too.
