This week I've decided to go for some more obscure and rare gems so I'm expecting alot of 'Love at First Sight' votes. Even if you haven't played the candidates please vote for the one that appeals to you the most by looking at the video footage below. In this poll we have what many consider to be the BEST 3 Horizontal shumps on the Saturn but which do you prefer: Hyper Duel, Cotton Boomerang or Thunderforce V? Pick one and list your reasons below HYPER DUELCOTTON BOOMERANGTHUNDERFORCE V

All good games...
Hyperduel, love this game. Waiting for it to arrive at the moment. Paid £280 no spine. A bit overpriced I'm feeling, as a game, but it is limited I suppose. Still, it's one of best hori shooters on the Saturn . Tight gameplay!
Thunderforce V, not my fave shooter by a long stretch. Comes in third in the series behind 3&4, the Saturn port of 3 being the best imo. A good game, just a bit of a letdown. I'm not feeling the switch to 2.5D
Cotton2 Boomerang , my favourite of the three, although, unlike many, I prefer Cotton2. it's a small gripe but I prefer the life meter. some of the best shooter mechanics in any game. Although, it's a bit too cute, the only negative for my tastes.

I'm in agreement with Marc. I actually don't like Cotton Boomerang as much as Cotton 2. I stupidly traded Cotton 2 for Boomerang last year and have regretted it ever since.
Boomerang gameplay really suffers without the aid of the RAM cart. It's not much but when you've played the nice and fluid Cotton 2 with the assistance of the 1MB Ram you really notice the differences in Boomerang. Plus I miss the energy bar. Why Success decided not to offer RAM support for Boomerang is a mystery to me.
I've always enjoyed Thunderforce V but I've never been inlove with it. There are always other shooters I want to play before I even consider it.
Hyper Duel is the clear winner. It's bold enough and fun enough for me to revisit on a regular basis. Plus it doesn't over stay it's welcome. The length is just right for me. Slightly easy though but it stil gets my vote.

I played TF V along time ago and enjoyed it but I've watched alot of videos on hyper duel and that game looks great, it's also on my list of wants but prices are getting crazy,I don't care for spine or Reg cards so lucky me as I might save a few quid.
I've never really been one for cute em ups So have always given cotton a bit of a swerve.

I can understand some people's total aversion to cuteness, it's not my favourite visual or musical preference in games.

They're all pretty great, but went with Cotton. Hyper Duel felt just one level or so too short, and I haven't beaten TFV yet.

HYPER DUEL FOR ME, ALTHOUGH... This is a tough selection for the poll here. TFV is great, I really like it although, like Marc has sort of said, it wasn't love at first sight. The love has grown over time. TFIV is still the best one they ever made imo. I'm also in the Cotton 2 > Boomerang club! Thought it was just me. The simplification of 'special moves' was nice in Boomerang, but overall, I too preferred the simpler approach offered by Cotton 2 (re: one character, life bar etc). Andm yes Marc!; I too am not one for Cute Em Ups etc, but I 100% agree... Cotton 2 is JUST on the right side of not being 'too' cute to enjoy fully But, the overall champ for me is Hyper Duel. Not only is it my fave game in this poll, it is in fact what I consider to be the BEST Hori Shmup for the Saturn and in my top 5 Saturn shmups overall! Shame it's so expensive which often causes people to dismiss it bsed on value for money > how good the game is on it's own merits.
