Hello all. Looking to get into Saturn as it's clearly a console with great games. Any tips on which is the best console to buy, etc... would be welcome.

Depending on what part of the world you're in. Either get a modded PAL console with 50/60hz switch plus region pass or a US or JPN console. You may also need a step down converter depending where yOu live. I'd aways recommend a Model 2 console over a Model 1 though.
Welcome to the forums.

ah yes, good point. i'm in the UK but only want Japanese version. i've always been a Neo gamer/collector and just love the artwork and style of games, like Waku Waku for example and Metal Slug, but obviously looking for alternatives

Depending who ypu buy from you may not need a step down converter. My White JPN Saturn had a UK powerboard fitted so I never needed a step down converter.

what are the differences between model 1 and 2? There isn't much difference but model 1 is an older machine.

lol.. excellent! i guess the model 2 is just a little more robust then (i.e. subsequent versioning)?
I saw the Hi-Saturn's as well. Crazy money right, or are they really worth a lot more?

If you're buying the machine just to play games then don't bother with the Hi-, JVC, Derby Stallion, Navi or Samsung Saturn as you can use the excess cash to buy more quality games. A standard model 2 is fine.

With the Neo's everyone (well almost everyone) swears by the Sony PVMs Majority of people will tell you a CRT is the way forward which makes sense especially if you plan to buy light gun games i.e Virtua Cop/House of the Dead. I have an Acoustic Solutions 32inch LCD with a C-Sync multi audio RGB scart and the picture and sound are flawless with no lag. I can't comment on Sony PVMs as I've never owned one. Maybe someone else can help with that.

So where's the best place to buy games from? i generally try to avoid fleeced-bay. Unfortunately Ebay is still your best bet. Just be smart with the sellers you buy from. There are a few online game sites, some of them are good some of them are not. Cash Converters and some Computer Exchange have started doing Saturn games again. Although you won't find much variety in those stores.
