So which are your favourite genres on the Saturn? Not necessarily in general, but specifically on the Saturn. Feel free to give notable examples for your choices. I´ve allowed up to three so you don´t have to make any tough choices.

fighting games and RPGs for me, the Saturn has a good ratio of "home" games and "arcade" type games and those 2 represent the best of both for me.
I do of course like other genres as well , though Im not a big shmup fan , which is a Saturn staple.

1. I'm loving the Saturn for its Shooter library, the best on any system bar the PCE. Garegga, Batsugun, Hyperduel, Soukyugurentai and RSG, a few of the many great games ported to Saturn in this genre.
2. Fighters!!! The Saturn is home to some of the best Capcom ports, SFZ3, SFZ2 Dash, MSH Vs SF, X-Men Vs SF and Pocket fighter. There are some ok-ish SNK ports, the best imo are SSlV and RBFF special. Sunsofts Astra superstars is also a great title.
3. Beat em ups. I'm saying beat em ups, but really I just mean any side scrolling/action game, that's not a platformer. My faves in this genre are Tenchi Wo Kurau, Nekketsu, Elevator Action Returns, Metal Slug and Guardian Heroes.
The Saturn has some great racers as well, Sega Rally + and Daytona USA CCE are my two favourites.
Puzzle games got a lot of love on the system, my faves being Magical Drop lll and Puzzle Fighter X.

Fighting games! I came into the Saturn at a time when I didn't put much thought into them and just mashed buttons but now I've come to appreciate the true skill that comes with them. Personal favourites of mine are Street Fighter Alpha 2, King Of Fighters '95 and Fighters Megamix.
At a close second is racing games. A lot of the racers that came out for the Saturn are far from perfect (Touring Car and Daytona, looking at you) but all of them just have this amazing arcade playability. Sega Rally in particular I've grown fond of.

For me it would have to be;
RPG'S:
The Saturn has some amazing RPG'S. From Shining The Holy Ark, Shinning Force 3, Albert Odyssey, Black Matrix, Wachentoder, Princess Crown. Magic Knight Rayearth, Panzer Dragoon Saga, Grandia, Dark Savior and Story of Thor 2/Legend of Oasis are all excellent games. Still yet to experience games Mystara: Realms of Lore, Shadows of the Tusk and Cyber Doll to name a few but from the ones I've played there is a rich abundance.
SHUMPS:
I was never a shumps fan when I first got into the Saturn but I soon started to appreciate this genre of gaming. Having aquired games like Batsugun, Radiant Silvergun, Tiger 2, Hyper Duel, Sengoku Blade, Cotton Boomerang, Battle Garegga, Galactic Attack, Darius Gaiden, Night Strker S, Game Paradise, Kingdom Grand Prix, Sol Divide and Souky, I fully appreciate the pick up and play ease of this genre and the high replay value it offers.
BEAT 'EM' UPS/SHOOT 'EM' UPS
This was almost going to be Fighting or FPS but the reality is that although there are many great Capcom, SNK and other Saturn fighters as well as the FPS efforts of Lobotomy, these experiences can easy to have on other consoles as well. Some of the games avaliable to the Staurn in thr beat 'em' up genre are still very exclusive to the Saturn. Having games like Assualt Suit Leynos 2, D&D Collection, Crows: The Battle Action, Die Hard Arcade, Metal Slug, Techni wo Karau 2, Purikura Daisakusen, Hot Blooded Children, Guardian Heroes, Herc's Adventures, Contra: Legacy of War make the Saturn worthwhile owning.

This is a really tough question to answer since my favorite games don't really fall into a neat category. Or there are just one off titles like Mr. Bones or Sega Rally that I love, but the other platformers/racers don't really tickle my fancy. Even lightgun for Virtua Cop 1 and 2 doesn't seem like I could say "This is my favorite genre."
RPG
Panzer Dragoon Saga and Dark Savior were amazing.
Fighter
I definitely played Megamix and Virtual On the most out of any multiplayer titles, by far and away.
Shmup
Like I said, there are so many one off games in different genres that I like more than shmups. Shmup is definitely not my favorite genre, overall. Not even close, but Shmups are generally of good quality and I really got into Galactic Attack and Cotton 2.

The Saturn's strong suit shmups and vs fighters. I have a lot of these 2 genre's and they are reproduced perfectly on Saturn. These are the reasons I bought a Saturn and I guess I'm not alone.

1. Shoot 'em up & Rail shooter (same genre, different perspective) 2. Action Platformer - Two MM games, Taromaru, Elevator Action Returns, Leynos 2, Silhouette Mirage, G'nG 1-2, Keio 2 3. Racing (if we count Nights here) 4. RPG I think, haven't played that many yet. 5. Action Adventure & ARPG 6. Beat 'em up & Fighting - Not that into vs. fighting but you can't deny it's a strong genre on SAT. 7. Platformer 8. Puzzle 9. Run 'n Gun 10. FPS maybe? Would rather play most of these on PC and I count Powerslave as an action adventure or metroid-like.

It's the one I've played the least out of those but it could be described as an action platformer version of Radiant Silvergun and plays similarly to Alien Soldier as well; you get a bunch of moves to learn early on and it's a pretty frantic game. It's also supposedly better balanced on SAT than on PS1.

I had heard pretty good things about it and have been thinking of picking it up as I like a good 2d run n gun/action platformer. And the lack of these games is criminal considering the abilities of the Saturn.

no doubt rpg.
people say playstation (2) or snes were the best in rpg's but I disagree. the diversity, uniqueness and amount of 9/10 rpg style games on saturn is something I never found on any other system and it's my favorite genre.

Even though my opinion has changed drastically over the years, I voted for my original favorite genre.
FPS First Person Shooter
When I got my Saturn in Xmas of 1996, I just started becoming obsessed with games like Doom on my friends computer.
However I didn't yet have a PC and 16 bit consoles simply couldn't do the genre. So only with a Sega Saturn for the entire 1997 and start of 1998, I had to figure out what to do.
Thankfully my first one was Alien Trilogy which was excellent and still is. But then a company called Lobotomy came into my life and probably helped save the system for me in late 1997. By giving me a great version of Duke 3D first and then an amazing version of Quake for Christmas that year, the FPS nut in me was at least satisfied with these 3 titles.
Saturn didn't do many FPS, and it wasn't supposed to do them at all, but I found enough as a fan to keep me happy. Powerslave was always one Id dream of in magazines but didn't get it until some years later when I got older and got a job.
Doom was obviously a mess but Hexen ran well and was a good port.
The wildcard for me was always Congo the Movie. It was a weird US exclusive movie listened Doom clone that took place in the jungle. I used to endlessly read the Gamepro review of it and look at the pictures. Amazed by the jungle graphics combined with Doom style. It was the first Saturn game I bought off Ebay in 2003ish. Certainly the game has a lot of issues but it'll always hold that odd love from me.
So the Saturn does have a neat little 7 game back of FPS titles but absolutely the 4 excellent standouts are the Lobotomy Trilogy and Alien Trilogy. Again this is why Lobotomy love is so strong in general but especially from me because they produced 3 legit ones with their skill. Without them, the FPS library on Saturn might have literally been just a nice Alien Trilogy and a bunch of crap ports.
Now my 2018 favorite Saturn genres not including FPS
SHMUP
No doubt the system kills it here and I have not even played 75% of them. Darius Gaiden, Gallactic Attack, Battle Garegga, Layer Section II, Radient Silvergun just name a few
RPG I never cared for the genre back in the day. The Saturn was the reason I even tried it. Panzer Dragoon Saga was my first. Magic Knight Rayearth, Shining Force III, Shining the Holy Ark are all so excellent. And Im excited to finally give Albert Odyssey and Dark Savior proper playthroughs this year.

Powerslave was always one Id dream of in magazines but didn't get it until some years later when I got older and got a job. to be fair, no system of the time did FPS all that amazingly , with the exception of a few N64 titles. the genre was very much still seen as a PC genre. You did start getting a few more later on , but by that point the system was kind of dead. would have been interesting to see Dark Forces on the Saturn though.
