I've had an interest in the Sega Saturn due to the variety of beautiful 2D artistic games *Cough Cough* Astal *Cough Cough* Rayman, *cough Cough* ect.
What model of saturn is the better one< Model 1 or 2? and which version of the controller is the best for my tiny teenager hands? I'm a huge fan of the Sega Genesis controller, as I have one for my crappy AtGames sega genesis, however the original controller has defective buttons. I'm talking about the original 3 button one if you're wondering. What carts should I go for? I know of the ram carts for fighting games, and those look cool, (I do like me some Street Fighter every once or twice, or some other fighting games) but I would like to know what is best for Memory. I also know that Action Replays are very, VERY important for imports. (I plan on getting some imports for games such as, Radiant Silvergun, Saturn Bomberman since it's expensive for an american copy, and Sonic Jam for the same reason. I'll also be getting more imports down the road as well.) Finally, what is the best way to find a functional, better than decent condition, Saturn? I've been scrolling through some listings on Ebay, and found listings for prices as low as 60 to 70 bucks. It's been making me wonder how in the world you would find a cheap Saturn. I've been finding very cheap listings on Dreamcasts, some as low as 40 bucks. That's really all. If pros out there could help me on my quest, that would be great.
Thank you so much!

Which model to get, is purely a matter of preference. There's no real difference between model 1 and 2. The two Japanese skeleton models have an issue with a game or two (someone pipe in because I've forgotten).
So do you like oval or round buttons. If you go JP Saturns there are colors beside black.
Controllers, memory carts, multitaps, vcd cards, etc are region free. There's a FDD, floppy disk drive that is JP region only.
Advice on collecting games, mod your Saturn to play cd-rs. The easiest way is the pseudo Saturn which uses a converted action replay/game shark cart. Phoenix modchips are popular and depending on you, may be easy to install. All are available on eBay.
This allows you to try a game first as some of the current prices are hard to justify. You should already know a high price doesn't equal a great game.
Only buy what you plan to play. Sounds simple unless you're like me when I joined. I completed a U.S. collection and while I really enjoyed (documented here) doing it, I still have a lot of games I'll never play.

I go for the model 2 controller or Japanese version of the controller because the shoulder buttons are the main problem with model 1 controller is the shoulder buttons and it's nice to see someone in a similar age group.

Sadly, you're about 10 or so years too late to get a $30-40 (if not cheaper) Saturn. heh

As to the ram carts etc. I recommend buying Action Replay 4in 1. It will serve you as an additional RAM and a memory card (if you are not lazy to copy manually your saves from console internal volatile memory to the action replay unit).

Yeah 4in1 is the best way to go. It's a must own for backing up saves, the extra RAM, and playing imports.
Imports are especially good if you want to keep your spending down as some Japanese versions of games are cheaper and still contain 100% english (or at least enough for it not to matter, like Nights)
