Kind of new to Saturn and just picked up Virtua cop 1&2. I only have the regular controllers....will they work or do I need the light gun? If so does the light gun work on a modern non crt television? TIA for any info....

Light guns will only work on CRTs, which is a pity. Welcome to the forum

controllers work , though if you can't use a light gun , you can also use a mouse which isn't too bad , and personally I think the mouse is a bit better to use than a controller.

I enjoy playing them with a controller, but the lightgun is definitely the way to play.

I've never tried these games with a controller - must try it out.

Yeah - should be good as long the mouse is in good condition (probably the old ball type?) Always meant to get a mouse to use with Dezaemon 2 but I've gone off the idea - may well sell that game.

Controllers are fine for all light gun games. I use the mouse with Virtua Cop 2 and auto fire pad for House of the Dead. For VC2 I even the odds by playing it in VC1 mode.

You can use the Analogue pad with VC2 and HotD, which gives you smoother scrolling of the crosshair, making it better than the standard pad. I also like that you can use the analogue triggers like a gun trigger, which adds to the immersion. But if you have a CRT, playing with a gun is way better.

I've never tried these games with a controller - must try it out. I played Virtua Cop 1 with a controller all through my childhood. It's very memorization-intensive, since no matter how good you are you won't always be able to get across the screen in the time between an enemy appearing and that enemy shooting. Even though it's not as fun as with a light gun, it is definitely worth trying even if you do own a light gun.

Tried these with the controller - VERY tough compared to the gun but I imagine once you start memorising the levels it would get more manageable. Interesting to hear the analogue controller works with these.
I reckon the mouse would make the game easier than the gun.
Great ports though. And the PAL versions are full screen and speed adjusted too.
