They're pretty cheap controllers - probably easier just to replace. The stick itself may be easy to replace - you could actually get a higher quality replacement -part - might need soldering skills though. I can't remember if the stick connections are plugs or soldered.

I wouldn't mind getting some Japanese variant stick, but at the same time I'd hate to chuck the controller out if I could give away the controller to some other person who wants to fix it with the intention of keeping or flipping it.

As arcade sticks go the virtua stick isnt great, not the worst by far but probably not worth the time and effort to repair. Be tempted to try and shoehorn a good quality arcade stick and buttons in to the casing...
