Hello Everyone,
New Sega Saturn owner here looking to get started but getting very frustrated already. I've purchased two saturns, one confirmed to be working and one in unknown condition. I've purchased Action Replay Plus and it works up to the game load screen at which point it freezes with copied games on both systems. Both systems play the audio portions of the discs without the Action Replay inserted. Had an original USA NTSC game included with one of the systems but it broke into about 8 pieces during transport. I've followed all burning instructions provided online to burn games from Cue/Bin formats using IMGburn at 2x/4x/8x speeds with no success using 2 different CD-R manufacturers. Games claim to burn correctly, but won't load using Replay Plus.
Already cleaned the laser carefully with alcohol on both systems. Consulted various online articles for help to no avail. These games should be playing in my estimation - can anyone offer any advice or direction? Should I be burning the games in a different way? I'm aware that I can tweak the strength of the laser inside the console, however the seller of the functional console stated that it plays original Saturn games without issue, so it should be working with burned games. Any help is appreciated thanks.

Does the Action Replay have Pseudo Saturn installed? Standard ARs don't play pirated copies of games.

What Barry said. The Action Replay does not, and has never played copied games with the stock software that it comes with. All the Action Replay can do in stock form is make your Saturn region free, meaning it will play import official Saturn games.
You can actually do the swap trick with the Action Replay to run burned games, just like with the stock Saturn if you can figure out and time the laser movements. This still requires using an official disc for the security sectors. This isn't recommended.
Just flash the Action Replay cart with the Pseudo Saturn software, then the cart can boot burns directly. If you're doing this yourself, it will require performing the swap trick one time to boot the flashing software. If flash of the cart is successful, this was the one and only time you will have needed to do the swap trick. From then on the cart can run burned games directly.
