I'm thinking of getting a physical Sega Saturn and there's quite a few Japanese games I want to play.
How hard is to burn/get a modded Disc for the Saturn, is it a real hassle, like do you have to mod the console itself and get a special disc or anything like that?

Region Free BIOS will allow you to load any region games as if they were native. But you have to do SMD soldering for it.
Disc swap allows you to load any region games and backups, but you have to dick around doing the swap on every boot. You only need some scotch tape.
Action Replay allows you to load any region games, but you have to dick around in a menu. Just plug in the cart.
Pseudosaturn allows you to load any region games and backups, but you have to dick around in a menu. Just plug in the cart.
Installing a physical switch allows you to switch your units between US or JP and load only those games your console is set to. You have to solder some cables and a switch.
Modchip allows you to run backups, but only matching region ones... however you can patch the games prior to burning. Requires soldering 1 cable.
SD Loader allows you to... run everything, from an SD card. No need to solder, you can swap the cd board out. The downside is the price.

Yes, reproduction discs won't play on a regular Saturn without the help zyrobs mentioned. You can also print off scans yourself and save a few bucks.

I bought a modchip and did it myself. You will need to patch the roms (you find) to play on the console you use. JPN to US or vice versa. Use Madroms region patcher found here. madroms.satakore.com/We don't give links to roms
