www.forever-entertainment.com/en.panzer_dragoon_remake_i_panzer_dragoon_ii_zwei_remake_a01.htmlForever Entertainment together with SEGA Holding Co., Ltd. from Japan will co-create and publish Panzer Dragoon: Remake and Panzer Dragoon II Zwei: Remake. The premiere of the first part is planned before the end of 2019!
Panzer Dragoon: Remake is a refreshed version of Panzer Dragoon. The original version of the game had its premiere on the Sega Saturn console in 1995 and was well received by both players and critics. The entire Panzer Dragoon series has been repeatedly remade and released on many platforms. The last re-launch took place in April 2018 on Xbox One, where players can play Panzer Dragoon Orta with a backward compatibility. The new version of the game will be characterized by a completely new graphics compatible with today's standards and several modifications of the game, making it more attractive to modern players, while remaining faithful to the original in terms of story. The first materials from the game will be presented in the upcoming months!Talk about out of the blue news! Not sure if it's going to be a good kind of remake, but at least the Panzer Dragoon franchise has something going on. The big question is... does Sega plan to do the same with Panzer Dragoon Saga, and does it depend on the sales of PD/PDII remakes?

I really do hope these first two remakes are a way of testing the water to see if the far more ambitious Panzer Dragoon Saga is worth also giving the same treatment, but I've not exactly heard good things about the quality of Forever Entertainment's previous output. After the disappointing recent Shenmue I & II remaster set, my fingers are firmly crossed that lessons have been learned at Sega...

Saga will never see a re-release unless they're able to rebuild the engine from the ground up.

Saga will never see a re-release unless they're able to rebuild the engine from the ground up. I'd imagine they'd pretty much rebuild the whole thing regardless, the Saturn assets would be so dated now anyway. And it's not as if people don't build brand new games all the time. If Sega think there's a market, there's no technical reason it couldn't happen. Would be fantastic.

'the entire series has been repeatedly remade and released on several platforms' seems like a bit of an exaggeration to me. There was Orta, a Game Gear version, and the ports to PC and PS2. Am. I missing something? That statement feels more akin to Street Fighter or Sonic which have been remade more than the average bed.

First it was the Command and Conquer remake, now this. 2019 is shaping up to be decent.

What a pleasant surprise!!! Hope the games will perform well financially, so that the hope of a proper PDS remake can live on!

Saga will never see a re-release unless they're able to rebuild the engine from the ground up. Since they're redoing 1 & 2 it's not too much of a stretch to think the engine would work for Saga.

Saga's source code was lost I believe?
I doubt it would have been of any value anyhow in the context of a remake, nor the original graphical assets - unless they were dramatically downscaled from original HD files. I'd like to think if the PD1 & 2 redux do well financially then Saga would be on the cards.

The source code for Panzer Dragoon Saga was indeed lost along with that of several other games from around the same period, though I forget the full list of confirmed titles. At the very least, it was once claimed the first House Of The Dead wasn't included with its two immediate sequels on a compilation for the Wii because it also suffered from missing data. Naturally, the Saturn conversion wasn't considered good enough to use, and even the PC edition didn't offer enough of an improvement to compare with the Model 2 original. Also, the most recent console releases of Virtua Fighter 2 and Daytona USA have relied on partial emulation for similar reasons. Speaking of this as a possible option for the classic Panzer Dragoon trilogy, M2 recently hinted that it's now perfected recreating the Saturn's hardware, which suggests its own in-house solution independent of more advanced PC alternatives such as SSF, Yabause or Mednafen. With the previous era's biggest examples now mostly exhausted, I'd love to see the powers that be at Sega look into revisiting the company's Model 2, Saturn and perhaps even Model 3 catalogues... ElSemi's Model 2 Emulator was previously licensed for official use, so it would be great if the programmers behind SSF and Supermodel were similarly approached due to these having the highest compatibility of the respective platforms they aim to reproduce.

M2 are a class act.
Their port of Cave's Mushi Futari to the 360 is stellar.

This is great news. I wouldn't mind playing a slightly more shined up PD 1 and 2. Im perfectly fine playing the originals but Im excited to see what could come of this.

The developer has me nervous that this'll be a cash grab, or mobile only.
