664116944
..
also how can one tell? on US Saturns I heard it was first digit is year, second is VA rev. proved to be True in case of my US mk2 I verified when I opened it up.
but looking at white JP mk2 serial#'s and some others on ebay, it doesn't seem consistent. like I see another white JP mk2 thats P7D125542 and another thats AD65012014
thx

664116944 = VA4 P7D125542 = VA13 AD65012014 = VA5
assuming the cases haven't been flipped out.

B7D047318 A7D095662 The first number/letter is the manufacturer identifier code. Sega first used numbers, but once they used up all of them they started using letters, and once they used up all of those, they started using two letters. For the VA number, once they got beyond 9 they had to use letters there too. A = 10, B = 11, D = 13, F = 15. B7D047318 and A7D095662 are both VA13.

I though it was third number as the va# asking for decoding reasons bc I'm trying to hunt down a va1 on eBay assuming the board hasn't been switched, to fit a rhea possibly

Because the format is manufacturer code, year, board revision, and the manufacturer code can be multiple letters (AD) but the year is always numeric.

I see thanks!
And do you have a gauge if VA0 or VA1 is more common, or probably around evenly spread?

I don't know the total numbers from the top of my head, but you can check the serial db here: evilboris.sonic-cult.net/saturn/iirc va0 is more common in Japanese units (all hst-3200 units are VA0), but outside japan VA1 was more common simply because they already started phasing out VA0 by the time export production started.

That makes sense! You have a rhea Saturn and a phoebe one right? Increasingly tempting for me to have both, even though total overkill The model 1’s just look nice haha

Yeah, I have 3 or 4 including the prototypes I'm hanging on to. I've been meaning to sell the extras but I don't have the time (I want to take photos of my consoles before selling them, and I've yet to go through all my extra consoles).
The HST-3200s have dual leds which is kick ass but they susceptible to yellowing...

Depends what is broken. If the entire console doesn't boot, the access light will still flash because the CD system works semi-independent from the rest of the console - a Rhea won't help because the issue is not with the drive.
But if it's just the CD drive not being able to read discs, then sure, you can switch it to a Rhea and you are golden.

Just curious because I know you have a full fleet of them ahah

The Rhea makes the access light work just fine, like the CD drive would.
Yeah, I've bought plenty of broken Saturns for very cheap, and gotten them working after a quick clean up. Only to break them later on with botched mod jobs.
