You wait years for an ODE and then.... Yet another ODE for Saturn (and Dreamcast too) has been announced. MODE, by Terraonion, packs some pretty impressive features including full USB and SATA support for both Dreamcast and Saturn. shop.terraonion.com/en/home/17-Terraonion_MODE_Dreamcast_Saturn_ODE.htmlPersonally I think this is great since Terraonion actually have a decent store front and make enough of their hardware to satisfy people and not have silly waiting lists. Yes they have had some bad press in the past with the PC Engine ODE but overall their stuff has been pretty solid. Although, for the Saturn I'd probably skip this and go with the Satiator since it's nice to be able to boot original discs too if you pick one up for your collection and want to test it.

It'll probably the most expensive option, since they do not ship from the EU. On top of the ODE price you also get customs and tax.
A Fenrir or Satiator or even original Rhea/Phoebe (if you can snipe one at the original price) plus a chink gdemu clone will be far cheaper.

Definitely a premium price but the extra features of SATA support and a decent menu system make it more appealing than Rhea/Phoebe.
Last time I ordered from them I got no customs charges, however the Post Office here has been telling me that businesses worldwide (and then eventually the general public too) will soon be expected to move to electronic customs declarations. Rather than just write a CN22/23 you will need to enter your parcels contents online (or the assistant at the post office will enter them), and then an e-tag will be generated for your parcel which means customs in the receiving country can calculate value exactly. This is going to mean a LOT less parcels just trickling through customs because nobody has time to inspect them and work out the value. It is also aimed to make it easier to trace people falsifying customs forms.
Obviously EU to EU will remain as it is with no customs stuff to do, but VAT to pay at point of purchase.

I am definitely thinking about getting one. It would solve some problems that I have such as: - Dreamcast games being impossible to find locally or expensive online - US Saturn games, above reasons - Saturn games that are load heavy.
As I have put elsewhere, I will put here too. Since I already have two regions for Saturn hardware, there is no real desire for me to have something like this for the JP Saturn. I would need something for US Saturn games or games that are load heavy. Since I started playing around with japanese games, some like World Advanced Daisenryaku I could have more patience with if it wasn't so slow. It reads the disc constantly because a game like that is always loading the video animations and scenes. It is also quite loud when it does this. BUT on a whole, I have been not using my Dreamcast at all, in fact it has been sitting in the box for years now. Because I do not have any games I would want to play on it.
Then again there is the other problem with a device like this. It means you then will have to source the warez to be emulated. I would still collect the games even if I got it.

They will be region free so it won't matter what Saturn you install it to it will run all games (unless you want to run PAL too then you'd need a 50/60hz switch).
Sourcing warez for consoles this old shouldn't be that hard given how fast internet connections are now.

Just wondering if there is a list of optimised PAL games that will run correctly (even if faster) on a NTSC system?
For example, I played Exhumed on a NTSC system and the display meters/items at the bottom partly disappeared off the screen, so I would say that wouldn't work. With games like Wipeout 2097 not having a US release, I hope the PAL version would work OK...

I never had any issues with Exhumed on my NTSC Saturn other than the intro's speech no being played back correctly

pretty cool there's a readily available Saturn ODE
too expensive though imo, and SD card for rhea/Phoebe is more than sufficient for me but I love options for the consumer
and to see a device with easier format compatibility even though doesn't matter to me now

This is a great idea, but I'd echo the comments about price. I'd love to own one but right now? My common sense tells me to keep hold of my cash and continue emulating and/or using the Pseudo cart.
One to watch, though, for sure.

It will definitely be better than Rhea/Phoebe by virtue of not having a crap menu system... if that's worth the big jump in price I guess that's for you to decide. If you already managed to snag one of the said devices I'm not sure there's enough extra functionality here to warrant the asking price.
If you don't have an ODE for your Saturn though I'd say this is worth every penny. Saturn Emulation and Pseudo saturn blows (IMHO), so I'd definitely prefer it over that. Even if you have a modchipped Saturn this is way more convenient and durable.
If this is your favourite console it should well be worth that investment.

I do have a fully modded system, but would much prefer having an ODE. Meaning I don't need to have a heavy disc folder to accompany it. Personally, I'd hold out for a Satiator. Albeit, no idea when that is coming out and how much it's likely to cost.

This definitely looks like a promising alternative and until a week ago when i managed to get hold of a Pheobe and Rhea I was going to pre-order. The additional features and GUI make this very much an good option. Shame the price ends up being around £180 which is considerably more then the Rhea/ Pheobe if you can pick one up.
Let's see where they go from here as more ODE's are being released for the Saturn :]

Mine came back for the DC and Saturn. Bit of small pain to instal into the Saturn, but well worth it.
