Simple question really. The ghost replay data from time attack won't save even with internal battery insterted. Will a memory card allow me to keep it so i can properly race against myself? If anyone can confirm this for me i'd be happy to hear before i go out and buy one!

I have ghost data saved on my memory cartridge. I only noticed it there the other day! How funny and coincidental. I haven't used the ghosts. Can try it though? Word of warning.. the ghosts seem to take LOADS of space on the cart. Like 900!!! Like I said, it's on my cart so yeah it can be saved. Don't know about opening up and using the ghosts in game though. I also thought I had selected the option to not use ghosts, so was surprised to see it on my cart. Hope this helps!!! Right! So... I appear to have deleted that gdata that I found. I tried to race a time attack on forrest and then again on desert. Basically after my run the screen went white and the game stopped working. I checked that the catridge was recognised before loading the game. My guess is that it does use like 900 blocks on the card and as there isn't enough space on my cart it crashes the game. I have actually just ordered another memory cart as I started playing Dforce and basically was running out of space to save stuff.
I can check again about the whole saving ghosts when I get the new cart in the next few days.
The manuel states you need the cart to save ghosts. I know it does use loads of blocks... From when I saw it on my cart before. Must have just deleted it as I thought I wouldn't need it. Very long winded, but I gave it a go for you. I say go ahead and get a cart. As if you play more than 3 games at a time you'll run out of space on your system and a backup is always good.

I think you can only save your ghost data on the Saturn disk drive via Saturn Floppy Disk. If I recall, you can't save ghost data on a memory card either.

Perhaps someone with the official cartridge can? As I stated, you can only save ghost data on the floppy disc. The official cartridge won't save it either. |

I'm very curious about this now as I used to own an official cart but I don't remember ever being able to save ghost data on it so I think Sych is correct but I'm doubting my memory now too.
If I recall Ghost data demands over a 1000 blocks and to save ghost data onto a cartridge it needs to be sitting in the system memory first but if the system memory only takes 500 blocks, how would it be possible for ghost data to be sitting there?
Unless you can gain direct access to the cartridge memory via the options menu (which I don't think you can) then I'm not sure how it can be achieved.
Someone with more knowledge is bound to come in here and set the record straight.

You simply play the game with the Official backup memory cart in your Saturn and games like Daytona USA CE and Sega Rally will automatically save the ghost files and replays to the Cart. You need do nothing other than having the SEGA Back Up memory cart inthe Saturn |

Not an expert here but as far as I'm aware you can save data straight to the official backup cartridge unlike 3rd party carts ala AR 4in1 where data must be saved internally then manually copied over to the AR 4in1 For example, Resident Evil on saturn. When you save the game it gives you the option to save internally or to the cartridge. Trying this with a 3rd party cartridge doesn't allow you to save directly to it. I wouldn't know how this works exactly with Sega Rally Championship, whether it detects the official cartridge and bypasses the internal storage? I'm sure MegaCD can explain this better than I. |
