Cheers for clearing that up MegaCd!
Question: Does the Official Cart remove the need of the CR2032 watch battery for the internal storage? I believe I've tried using my AR 4in1 without the battery in the hopes that resetting the console would keep the save data in the ram to then transfer but I don't remember it working.

No you still need the CR2032 battery for system storage and time keeping functions

Thanks for this. I'm definitely gonna grab a brand new memory cart and retry it.
My official memory cart was never the most stable back in the day, I usually had to take it out and re apply it a few times to get it to work. Probably why my ghost data save never registered.

A nice simple tip is before you play Rally. Just turn the Saturn on and go to the memory screen, to make sure the Back Up memory is showing and working fine

After hearing this I'm rather tempted to get one too The Saturn's cartridge port is infamous for being a piece of shit. Many have given their reasons as to why this is the case, from the pins being thin and delicate to 3rd party circuit boards being too thick and bending the pins in the slot. I think it's to be expected that when buying a cartridge for the Saturn, expect something to go a little wrong.

OMG! I stand corrected. You were right Marley so apologies. This is will be major news for alot of people on the forum. As I've been here long enough to see the same question come up numerous times and the answer was always no. Thanks for the heads up MegaCD. That dude in the video has gone and splashed out on a Floppy Disk Drive when he could have sabed his ghost data to the catridge all along. Oh dear! Oh dear!

You can save time trial ghosts fine - the game just saves direct to the cartridge.

Guy probably paid a pretty penny for the floppy drive and could have done it with a cart all along.

But how were you able to save the ghost data to the cartridge if it's too big to sit in the internal memory and there is no option to save or load data in game? Can you walk me through your method? Sorry for all the questions but I'm now considering re-buying an official memory cart, just want to be sure I won't be wasting my money. If this was possible on an unmodded Saturn then my mind is blown as I'm pretty sure I tried all methods at the time. Must be old age. Not an expert here but as far as I'm aware you can save data straight to the official backup cartridge unlike 3rd party carts ala AR 4in1 where data must be saved internally then manually copied over to the AR 4in1 For example, Resident Evil on saturn. When you save the game it gives you the option to save internally or to the cartridge. Trying this with a 3rd party cartridge doesn't allow you to save directly to it. I wouldn't know how this works exactly with Sega Rally Championship, whether it detects the official cartridge and bypasses the internal storage? I'm sure MegaCD can explain this better than I. No, you have it there. The official memory carts are selectable as the primary storage (ahead of internal memory) with some games (Saturn Bomberman, for example, if it doesn't detect a save will) ask where saves should be made to. It may be that the oldest games may have never allowed to check for a memory cat because they predated the system but, from memory, I never had that issue. When I saw the OP, my first thoughts were the Daytona ghost data that used to use up big tracts of memory on my cart, so I knew it was possible, I just couldn't remember having the same for Sega Rally. I guess Megacd's image proves it does!

Yeahhh... I thought the end of page one was the end of the thread. Don't think I was adding anything by the time I even started reading the thead.

Also, it wasn't just SEGA racers that saves Replays. Fighting Vipers used the memory cart to save Replays too.
