...decades after it came out.
I'm currently on disk 2, the underwater tunnels bit and I'm loving every minute.
However, I realised today that I've never been this far in the game. I was shocked. I remember playing the life out of the first two, but not liking the battle system in Saga. Plus I was already playing N64 by the time PDS came out. It's such a great game that I cant believe I've had it all this time and never gave it a serious go.

That is surprising. It's one of my all time favorite games. The water section and underwater tunnels was one of my favorite parts visually. Am I crazy or does it just look gorgeous for its time/hardware?
It's a cliche to say, but in terms of gameplay pacing it's amazing how far ahead of its time it is. And there's no level grinding to speak of.

I think the fighting is the best I've seen in a jrpg. and that has aged so well. I can't play any older final fantasy, or chrono trigger for the life of me because of the shit battle system

Ah I remember the first and last time I played PDS was 2008.
I remember the underground tunnels being the moment I started to fall in love with the game.
Sorry if this is a soft spoiler but isn't this the first time we meet "her". I remember I was struggling a bit to really get into the game through the first disc. But the moment that happened I fell in love with the game.
I LOVE the battle system. Its probably my favorite part of the game.
I dont know if Ive ever mentioned it but there was a point late in the game I decided to use a walkthrough just to help me through a part (game really doesnt need it). I ended up reading a spoiler for something that happens in the game and I could never get over it. Even to this day. I really need to let it go and play it again. Its such a great game.

It really is something special. From the moment I got on the dragon and flew through the canyon and watched the fish in the river I was hooked. There's something that's pure magic about the art style used. While the game design and philosophy is so modern. Look at the other RPGs that came out in the same year, Suikoden 2, Xenogears, Quest 64,or Star Ocean the Second Story. They all seem to have the same classic RPG feel. Instead of long and drawn out with a focus on grinding to a large extent. PDS was short and sweet, and always kept things fresh.

I was hesitant to get the game since I really don't care for most RPG games. However, on the Retro Game Squad podcast, the host (who also doesn't care for RPGs) really started praising it a lot. That made me risk it. Glad I took the chance. It really is an excellent game. It has an interesting battle system, good story, isn't massively long, no endless grinding, etc... ie, none of the shite I hate in most RPGs Still not worth the price, but it's definitely a fitting end to the Saturn Panzer trilogy

Sadly those who turned down this game, because they didn't want to pay the £150 price tag a few years ago will be kicking themselves now. I've been wanting to buy a better conditioned copy, but can't get one for <£300.

I've been wanting to buy a better conditioned copy, but can't get one for <£300. There will come a time I believe when the prices will drop again. As the cost of living continues to gets ridiculously high, people are finding that they just don't have as much disposable income as they had before. Most of the PD Saga's I've seen on Ebay are the same ones that have remained unsold for years. The harshness of society is forcing people to wake up and re-evaluate their life choices.

The reason prices have gone is due to people getting stimulus cheques, and evidently many didn't need them. As a result of having free time and money. Its put increased demand on the retro game market. I like you will be curious to see what happens when everything has normalised by this time next year. Will the people who bought these games in the last few months be dumping them back in the not too distant future? I haven't been doing a great deal of buying in recent times; I've mostly been selling.

Ahh, tonight I showed my daughter the game. Was a nice moment, she went through to the end of the first tutorial, she was a little bored at first but started getting interested! I am one of the people who did NOT turn it down. In fact, it was the regular single disc price of AUD $69 (I'm pretty sure, I'll dig out the receipt, I'm pretty sure I have it!).
It's fitting that I would show my daughter, as I cast my mind back to 1998, it was on the shelf when I randomly walked into Video Games Heaven one day (a franchise that is no longer around here in Australia), I was meeting my girlfriend (now wife) to hang out at the mall, and incredibly, it was there on the shelf, brand new - the only copy. Without even thinking I put a deposit on it!!!
What a game, I've played it through a few times over the years, often when I've had some serious downtime, if I get knocked down with a virus or once during a long hemmerhoid recovery interval hahaha. It's always a great journey, and the atmospheric music just makes it even better, roaming a landscape with a moody piece of music going, so cool!
I'll see if I can dig out the receipt!

I'll see if I can dig out the receipt! Found it! I should preface this by saying, the Saturn was the only machine I ever kept bits and pieces like this for, call me nostalgic - it's a special machine Also included a shot of the bag from the now defunct gaming franshise:

I've told this story before, but if you've not heard it, then you'll get a laugh at this..
The Dreamcast had been out for 6 months or so and I was at my local market where I knew a couple of regular sellers always had 2nd hand Sega games. I asked him if he had any Dreamcast titles and he showed me a couple of DC boxes I wasn't much interested in. I was about to leave when he held up PDS, complete with cardboard outer. "Yours for 25 pounds!" he says...
My reply?
"Nobody wants Saturn stuff now, mate. Good luck getting 25 bucks for that.."
I think I even rolled my eyes at him.
I still have nightmares.
