Tried searching for an existing thread on the game, but I'm tired of sifting through threads about technical issues Anyway, no I'm not dead, just been dormant. I've been plugging away at Saturn games now and then. Anyway, yesterday for my Saturnday Stream I decided to play Bug! A game that I'd owned for years but never actually played (beyond the 5 mins of testing when I bought it, of course). Man, is that game rock solid. I'm glad I put the infinite lives cheat on to make sure it was stream friendly, or it would have been me playing the first few levels over and over Part of it is down to the game throwing you into the deep end early on, but part of it seems to be unfair too. Half of my deaths at least were due to poor hit detection - falling through platforms, touching spikes seemingly embedded into the floor, walking off the damn bones in world 2 because I expected them to catapult me, etc. Despite all that though, it is a pretty fun game. The bosses in particular seem to be extremely well done and a highlight of the game. They probably have a little too much HP, but the patterns are fun to learn and they are satisfying to take down. I kinda wish the game had a save system however, even if it was just a password save. I suppose there's a level skip cheat so that'll do I guess. What do you think to the game? And for those who played the second, is it any easier?

Happy to hear things are ok Adam! I like Bug! alot. I have never finished it because I suck at platformers but I really like it. I find the gameplay solid, but do agree the lack of saves and passwords kind of sucks. I have Bug! 2 as well. An equally solid title. Haven't played it in over a year but I remember it having different playable characters, but I never got far enough to see how it effects gameplay

I'm sure I saw somewhere that the second has difficulty options? Hopefully if an easier mode exists, it makes the game more accessible!

It's an okay game. The sequel is alot better and it is alot harder. I like the fact it saves between worlds too. If you think Bug is hard you should play Shinobi X

I have Shinobi X and have beaten it I didn't think Shinobi was that difficult to be honest, but I am a big fan of the series so that probably helped. Glad to hear the sequel is a lot better. Whilst I enjoyed my time, it was quite obnoxious in many places. I think I'll probably pick it up at some point to play. The original certainly piqued my interest.

I have shinobi X but haven't finished it haha. Gotta sit down and play it for a while 1 day.
The saving in Bug 2! is nice. Couldn't see any option to change difficulty though.

Bug could and should have been amazing. The 'Bug'testers must have been amazing at SEGA America at the time given how hard most of their games were at the time. The game needed more checkpoints and the ability to save at each checkpoint. That would have made it a top platformer (for the time) IMO

I have Bug! 2 as well. An equally solid title. Haven't played it in over a year but I remember it having different playable characters, but I never got far enough to see how it effects gameplay I think the different characters are just cosmetic. Bug Too had awesome music by the way. The first game already had that funky bebop chiptune thing going on, the sequel then does movie score parodies in a similar style and in CD Audio. The Weevil Dead theme has a real Danny Elfman vibe to it.

The game engine was much improved with some of the levels looking quite stunning also appreciated how each level was themed off various films . Music was also brilliant and the game was full of neat touches. Just a shame it was so hard to play and again there weren't enough checkpoints.

Bug Too also had a bunch of transparent effects, like the ghost on Weevil Dead. It used sprite-on-sprite transparency, which was rarely used on Saturn titles, plus VDP2 overlays for a global fog effect.

I have Shinobi X and have beaten it What! How is that possible? I didn't think it's possible for any human to complete that game. I've completed it myself but only via Action Replay cheats after spending over a decade being fed up with the brutal harshness of the game so I know what challenges come up in the later levels and to me those levels are almost impossible to complete without cheating. If you completed it without cheat codes then you're probably the first person ever on this forum to complete the game. I don't know a single that has completed that game. Bug should really be a breeze compared to Shinobi X.

I assume that's a joke. I can't really tell if you are being serious or not. Shinobi isn't that hard. Stage 4 gave me some grief because I didn't know how to get past some dude or other, but the game isn't so bad. It has some hard parts, sure, but I don't think it's any harder than most Shinobi games.
Also Bug and Shinobi are very different games. I don't think comparing the difficulty is very fair. I'm very good in some games and terrible in others. Being good in one type of game doesn't automatically make you a god of all games.

Never played either Bug game but Shinobi is a bitch.I can get to the level with the mine carts(level 4 i think) but then the urge to throw my pad out the window becomes uncontrollable.
