i become recently intersted in the vast Fighting game line up of SNK for the Saturn and I wonder if These games are stil worth playing today?
I am fully aware that there are other ways to play this gems today. Most if not evey SNK game ever released can be purchased on the PSN Store. The PSN Version should be arcade perfect.
But what are you thoughts on the Saturn Version? still decent Fighting games on the platform or would you say that there are better 2d Fighting games to consider for a good Saturn 2d Fighting game Collection?

They are all decent, some better than others. If I were to pick 3 still worth owning it would be Real Bout Fatal Fury Special, Samurai Shodown 4: Amakusa Revenge and King of Fighters 97'.

Waku Waku 7 is the only bad game, which is a shame, because the original Neo Geo game is actually decent.

tbh SS3 is mostly looks.. the game is abit uneven, alot of hits dont register and so on, have both the SS, NGA, PSX and the Wii versions they are mostly the same. Go for SS4 its great and for RBSpecial also alot of fun. (And KoF 96 is good, with some great stage visuals)

I know this may be sacrilege but there are plenty of cheaper ways of doing this than on the Saturn now. Of course if it's a collecting thing then that won't matter. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SNK_Arcade_Classics_Vol._1The Wii version is supposed to be best - even if you to buy a Wii and a classic controller it would still be cheaper than some Saturn games.

Thanks for the information. I am fully aware of that. It is for collecting and for gaming.
If gaming was only goal the easiest and cheapest way to play them would be purchasing them in the psn store and play them on my ps4.
For the samurai showdown stuff there even would be a collection out there as exodus has already pointed out.

Waku Waku 7 is the only bad game, which is a shame, because the original Neo Geo game is actually decent. I found that the only difference for Waku Waku 7 was the awful backgrounds. But iirc you can set the options to always have zoom out, so then it is not noticeable. The real problem (which also exists on the Neogeo version) is that the game is flashing backgrounds nonstop. This and Vectorman were the only games that made my eyes hurt for real due to the extremely frequent constant flashing of the screen. That and the final boss makes me want to slam the cd with a hammer. Luckily I managed to sell my copy before I got to do that.

Thought it was for collecting (and playing!!!) but thought I'd say anyhow. The games can get very pricey and some of the ports aren't thought to be all that good. I think Waku Waku 7 is a bit lacking. The only SNK game (not developed by SDK but was a NeoGeo game and published by them) I have for Saturn is Twinkle Star Sprites and it's excellent - I can recommend that one. Bought it a LONG time ago when prices weren't silly. When you complete the game in 1 player mode you unlock an option to toggle slowdown - so I presume the original on NeoGeo had that. It's really all about 2 player mode though. It you are only going to play in 1P then it's probably not worth the money.

Most NeoGeo games only gave you difficulty options and maybe how many lives per credit. I believe the Saturn games were based off of NeoGeo CD ports, which sometimes contained extras.

Sorry to bring this thread up again but I Need some more opinions.
Is there a Samurai Showdown game available on the Saturn, that would be more suitable for a beginner or all games equally hard concerning the difficulty Level?

The Saturn version has massive slowdown that only gets worse the longer the system is on for. It's a terrible port. It's such a terrible port I actually went and bought the Neo Geo version instead (when it was still affordable 11 years ago) Maybe WW7 plays better on PAL consoles. I'm not sure. In NTSC it's ridiculously slow.
