So far my Saturn Collection does not contain many RPG, only Sakura Taisen 1 and 2, I think it is debatable if you can consider this games as RPG, and not as visual novels.
But that is not the point. I am interested in getting a Repro with the English patch of Grandia 1 soon.
Which other RPGs available on the Saturn would you consider as a must Play? Maybe the Langrisser games? Never played them but have heard good Things About them. At the point my Knowledge About Saturn RPGS end.
So I would be really greatful to get some recommendations.
If you're limited to english language games you're in trouble, but panzer dragoon saga is obviously high up there, and shining force III, difficult though it may be, and Dragonforce is pretty interesting too. On the Japanese side personally I really like Grandia, Cyber Doll, Dragon Master Silk, Quovadis 2, and Marika. For Action RPGs there's Magic Knight Rayearth, Legend of Oasis, and Linkle Liver Story.
I've found the vast majority of the Japanese ones are unplayable unless you have translation materials or know Japanese. Even Wizardry: Lyllgamyn Saga, which has an option to put 90% of the text into English, is totally impenetrable without an instruction manual in a language you can read. (Disclaimer: I have yet to try the famously accessible Linkle Liver Story.)
That said, many of the Japanese ones do have translation materials... Of those, Grandia is certainly a must-have. The rest I've found to be fairly middling.
I'm sure I'm not telling you anything you haven't heard a dozen times before, but Panzer Dragoon Saga and Shining Force III are genuine masterpieces. Dragon Force, while its pace slows to a crawl later in the game, is hugely addictive, incredibly replayable, technically impressive, unique, and overall another must-have.
Magic Knight Rayearth is a personal fave. The actual RPG elements are relatively light, but if you like a good overhead, story-driven action-adventure game this should be right up your alley.
Shining the Holy Ark is positively essential for first-person dungeon crawler fans. Even if you're not a dungeon crawler fan, it's worth at least considering.
Mystaria/Blazing Heroes, while it suffers from lack of balance, provides a very good combination of quality and relative affordability. I like the touch of nonlinearity in the story, the visuals are pretty cool, and it builds nicely on the gameplay seen in Micro Cabin's previous tactical RPG, Guardian Heroes/Powers Kingdom for the 3DO.

Yeah, I've been buying mostly Japanese versions of RPG's because of the price. As well as the fact many weren't released outside of Japan.
I've been learning Japanese a little, but not enough to comprehend much at this point. I feel ya, I'll struggle through whatever translation means to finish some of the games if they're worth it.
Regarding RPGs I've actually played...Legend of Oasis(Zelda-like), Shining the Holy Ark(dungeon crawler), and Dark Savior(platforming/fighting) were all enjoyable to me albeit they are very different experiences.
I am student of the japanese language as well but until it would take years until I am good enough to comprehend the games. Until that point I have to rely to on guides to enjoy the games. I am really glad that there are these guides because without getting some japanese games it is not possible to see the full potential of the Saturn. Many great games never reached the west unfortunately.
ps Do you guys know the Japanese Saturn version of Luna Silver Story complete? Luna Silver story is also among the the games that I would love to play. I know there is a Playstation version as well but the US PsX Version is quite expensive, while the Japanese Saturn Version is cheap.
Everyone raves for SFIII (and rightly so) but I do love Holy Ark.
Holy Ark features a much better story for me and I found it much easier to get into and was for the best gaming in the series since the 1st game on the MD. I also enjoyed Dark Saviour if it never really felt like a RPG and more like a platform adv game with some remarkable Saturn graphics . I also really enjoyed Magic Knight Ray earth and found that to be a wonderful RPG; I was so gutted when WD dropped their planned translation of Lunar on the Saturn (thanks Bernie).
