I believe the battery thing was just a coincidence, I'm 90% sure it's the caps being old/worn that is at least part of your problems. The cart slots are often picky on Saturns, IMO better to have a proper region free / modchip mod done and just keep an action replay in there rather than have to swap and change. You can also try putting a folded business card behind the cartridge to push it forward slightly that often helps. I heard the Saturns had picky cartridge slots alight, my PAL Saturn was in such good shape I don’t think it ever had a cartridge put into it, the Japanese actually had games that used the ram cart so it makes sense it would be more warn (my one has what looks like some rust or oxidisation on the metal shielding above the contacts where as on my PAL Saturn it looks new). Offy: Didn’t know that, but in my case the Saturn arrived with no battery in it so I popped a new one in before powering it on for the first time, didn’t work on multiple attempts. Woke up this morning, took the battery out and tried again and now it works, weird.

Seller has agreed to give a partial refund but didn’t state how much. I got it for €57 + €8.50 shipping, what would you guys suggest as fair for a partial refund given how much I paid for it ?.

I should've mentioned to fiddle around with the battery, that alone helped me in the past too. But I didn't remember if it was removing a dead battery, or removing a working one, or putting in a new one when it had none before, or which combination it was. I mean I also had plenty of units that had dead batteries but still worked, but sometimes fiddling with the battery can revive non-working units.
edit: typo

The seller offered a €20 refund so I have accepted it, thanks for all the helps guys

So you got the Saturn working and you are getting a partial refund? That's pretty much the best case scenario. Use the refund money to buy a modchip It's better than all the cart solutions - those use a software hack that either works or it doesn't. And you need the cart slot for more important things (primarily backup cart for save games). The cart slot is "not working" usually because the carts require frequent cleaning, the pins are so thin that minimal dirt can block contacts. You'll need one of those sega security gamebit screwdriver heads to open up official carts, to make it easier to clean them. But that's about it. I've only had ONE board that had an actually broken cart connector (one of the pins was mis aligned, I could bend it back in shape but it has since given out), but that was a board-only replacement I got to fill some of the empty shells I had laying around, not a full unit.

Id probably go the whole hog and get a Fenrir before Id get a mod chip. I realize the Pseudo Saturn Kai isn't ideal but I can always flash it back to a regular Action Replay if I did get a Fenrir.
