So I'm on a model 1 Saturn and I'm using Mode ODE. This is my first Saturn I've had since ~2001, so it's a real bummer if it dies.
I'm going to use Sonic Jam as an example. I've been playing Sonic Jam this week with no problems. Today, when I load up Sonic Jam it shows the home screen for less than a second and then blinks to black. It immediately then goes into running demos of Sonic games which play with varying quality. If I press start/a fast enough I go into the game select screen which looks and plays fine. I open up Sonic 2 and the first zone plays pretty well. There is some weird slowdown and not just when I get hit while carrying 100 rings. Just random slowdown. When I get to Chemical Plant it just starts blinking to black constantly. The access light goes crazy. The Mode's access/hdd lights start flickering too. If I stand still Sonic comes back on screen for longer, maybe a half a second at a time. When I move the screen stay black for longer.
Any ideas, friends?

What happens if you remove the MODE and put back the original CD drive?

What happens if you remove the MODE and put back the original CD drive? I don't have the disc driver anymore. However, I hooked up the Rhea and I'm having the same trouble with it. I noticed the cable has a little singe mark or indentation. I believe the cable has always had that mark on it. It seems familiar, but I'm not sure.

I replaced the ribbon and it still doesn't work properly. In fact, it works worse now than it did before.
Two theories I have:
1. This is the second Saturn in a year to die while using Terraonion Mode. Mode gets as hot as the surface of the sun when it use. It's possible the heat buildup did something to something in the machine. The first Saturn worked fine for a long time with Mode. However, I never put the top back on the Saturn so the internals were exposed and had great ventilation. Once I put the lid on it died. The second Saturn died much more quickly and it may because I put an HDD in there with the lid on and it probably heat the system up very quickly.
2. These two Saturn were just getting old and perhaps they need new caps and crystals? The issues I'm having seem to be similar to the 'Extreme video fluctuation/crashing when reading discs' thread.
Any ideas would be appreciated.
