Hi all
Exactly what the title says!!
There are some very talented people out there these days doing some amazing things in gaming, and this is one game i would love to see get the treatment it always should have had.
The gameplay on the original launch Daytona was very close to perfect as it was, this hardly needs much of a change if any at all!
We all know the graphics could have been FAR better, the player cars were not terrible, but the AI cars were pretty ordinary, and dart all over the track pretty badly.
The track models and draw distance was always a sore point, but still looked more correct than CCE ever did. If the framerate could be gotten to a stable 25FPS for PAL and 30FPS for NTSC that would be great too.
If someone out there can improve those two aspects alone we would have a winner for sure.
Adding two player would be very difficult, and even more so if there was never anything left in the original code for that option, so that isn't something i would expect to see added.
I am not looking for another remake with everything looking totally different to the way Daytona USA should look, we have those already and they're not Daytona USA, just an improvement on how it does look, but still the same art style with the cars and tracks still looking as close to Arcade correct as possible.
I don't know what sort of capability the Saturn has to do this using an interlaced resolution to give a better overall result, and i don't reckon the letterboxing is a problem these days with almost all displays being widescreen, so that would probably allow for some good improvement in some areas while keeping resolution down a bit using a letterbox display that would still go close to filling a widescreen TV.
Whether or not things can be done to better use the dual processors and make better use of both VDPs i don't know enough about any of this.
If it can be done and was to turn out looking great and still having that awesome gameplay the way it was in the launch version, i for one would be more than happy to buy a copy and i'd pay good money for it.
I don't have any ability to do this sort of thing and wouldn't know where to start, but i have thousands of hours in this game as well as the arcade version so i am more than happy to do any testing required.
So is there anyone out there that feels they can do it the way it always should have been done?
