My friend's Sega Saturn all of a sudden looks like this. When searching people suggest you reflow (or if that doesn't work replace) the VDP1, VDP2 or memory chips on the motherboard. But which one gives this type of corruption?
The machine hasn't been used for a couple of years because of a dead laser. When my friend fired it up to try adjusting the potentiometer before ordering a replacement laser this is what he found.
Any help is really appreciated.

Seems like a VDP2 memory issue, I'd start by testing IC15 and IC16 and work my way back from there to the VDP2 and SCU to see if everything is connected.
