The laser is very likely fine, you just need to calibrate it. for curiosity I tried again to switch the lasers on the original assembly, and when moved manually to the outer part, both lasers move to the inside when turned on.
So they both behave the same.
That's not the laser, just the assembly moving it to the position where it has to make the first reads off of the CD.

Understood, so it's "unrelated" from the laser.
Update on the matter, I tried to adjust the orange pot on the laser, it seems it was still in the original factory position at least comparing visually to the other pots on other laser assembly.
I turned it clockwise in tiny steps, no disc spinning, only 1 or 2 click sounds in some occasions when pressing the lid switch.
I tried even counterclockwise but nothing.
Cai I assume it's a dead laser?
