Hi, =), After the problems I had with my Saturn of late, where I wasn't sure if it was the discs or the console, I'd really like to backup my games to CD-Rs incase they ever get fatally scratched, and then of course, a chipped machine to play them on. =)
I just figured, I'd buy a chipped Saturn, and if the game was at fault, I could burn to a new scratch-free disc, and if the console had been at fault, well, I'd have a new one. ^_^
Only snag is, my entire games collection is PAL, and the traders I've approached so far seem to only have JAP Saturns that are chipped, modded, and 50/60hz switchable. How are Jap machines at handling PAL games? If it's 50/60hz switchable, and I've an Action Replay Pro, will I be safe? Or are PAL games still best played on a PAL system?

Assuming that the Saturn is also region modded - and not just 50/60Hz switched, you will not need an Action Replay.
However (This is not technically related to what you are asking):
This is something I have also noticed, - there appear to be saturns out there that are modded for 50/60Hz that aren't actually region modded - and I can never help but wonder:
What kind of idiot mods a Saturn to be 50/60Hz switchable and then resorts to using an Action Replay?
Even though the Action Replay works for most games, a region switch works for all games.
The mod to actually switch the region of the Saturn is piss easy, they might as well have done it while they were going to the trouble of performing the 50/60Hz switch - it seriously does not make sense.
Some modders install a circuit that links the 50/60Hz modes and the region to the same switch - so watch out for this also.

I wasn't sure if it was region modded, just assumed, but will make sure before buying.
I do currently have an NTSC compatible TV here, but at my parents, they've only a PAL TV. If I'm switched to 50Hz mode, will it still work okay on a PAL TV, even though it's a Japanese Saturn?
Other than that, you're making it sound like there shouldn't be any probs, and am good to go. ^_^ Cheers.

yea your jap machine will run fine just it will be boredered and at 50hz, unless ur parents TV can output at 60hz which there is a possibilty it will as mine does and so i hear the majority do depsite only saying they are PAL 50hz on the back of em. so ya luck might still be in on this one

Jp saturn on 50Hz Tv will display black and white picture or interferance. Only if you use Composite, S-Video or RF - If you can actually see a picture that's in Black and white then the TV does support 60Hz, it just doesn't support NTSC. To achieve color picture on a TV that supports PAL-60 or RGB-60 but not NTSC-60, you have to use an RGB Scart cable. If you use RGB Scart you will get better picture quality on 50Hz and full color and better quality on 60Hz. However, he is after a Saturn with a 50/60Hz switch anyway, so if he plumps for both an RGB cable and the 50/60Hz switch it will all be fine.
