In my experience with the 2 systems the mk1 looks better but seems to suffer from reliability while the mk2 has always been more reliable having had 2 but doesnt look as smart in my opinion.

I prefer the look of the Mark 2, to be honest.
The mirror-polish black beziel does not compliment the rest of the console... imo.
Although I do like the grey Saturn (Japanese) with the blue buttons.

Totally opposite way around, the Model 1 UK Saturn's are far more reliable IMHO I prefer the look of the Model 1, the shiney black bezel complements the reciever for my IR pads and the absence of the front sega logo just makes it look like a big black sinister behemoth on my unit, and prompts questions such as "what the hell is that!?"

I like the MK1, though to be honest I have no interest in owning an actual PAL Saturn though.

mk1 all the way, though why the pal mk2 had to have stupid grey buttons when the us got nice black ones is beyond me it always puts me off to see the grey buttons messing up the sleek black colour, ho hum its only cometics afterall n underneath its still the same powerhouse

I prefer the mk.1, but only because it was the original - not for any other performance-related reason. I have a mint, boxed mk.1 and two non-working mk.1s. The minter is up in the attic arcade for occasional use, but my solitary mk.2 (I only have one, now) is my workhorse downstairs. The mk.2 has the door switch taped for swap-trick shennanigans and is in almost constant use.

I prefer the MK2, it was my first and frankly, the MK1 has that ugly bezel and buttons. That's purely my opinion though.

The first month I had the saturn I could compare mine mk2 to my cousin's husband mk1 (he and my bro bought saturns the same day) and I prefered mk2 from the start, it just looked prettier for me and another reason could be that the mk1 had some problems with reading cd's which made me think that mk2 is better.

and prompts questions such as "what the hell is that!?" Aww...I love it when that happens. =) I bought my Saturn very late in the day (late '97/early '98... after my N64 at any rate), and when friends came around, partially due to Sega's poor marketing, they didn't know anything about it. One friend assumed it was a new console, more powerful than the N64. I had to explain the Saturn had been around since 1995. ^_^ They'd never heard of it - only Playstation. =) Lol.

sega saturn mk1 for me, mcuh more sexier looking, unlike the cheaper to produce, chunky looking with bigger buttons, altho the mk2 pad is better
the jap mk1 is sexiest of all tho ;D
