I was just reading this article comparing the Saturn and N64 versions of Quake. Overall the guy recommends the Saturn version for better level design and sound quality, but it's almost as if he got confused over which version's which. Trying to make out the N64 has more detailed, higher resolution, textures, better lighting and other things. I don't normally get pissed at this kinda thing but after reading it I figured the guy had smoked some weed while playing the games and then smoked A LOT of crack while comparing screenshots after. It's not really important but I had to post to vent my frustration. Here's the link to the article. curmudgeongamer.com/2002/03/platform-shootout-sega-saturn-quake-vs.html

I didn't get to read the full thing but I looked at all the screenshots. I do like the atmosphere in the Saturn version better. From what I did read though, I have to agree with the guy.
I think you might have misinterpreted his article, or you're flying off the handles for the wrong reasons. :/ I think the guy has a very solid article. A good read.
EDIT: Just read it all. I'm staying with what I said before.

Yeah found out about that site, when I wrote my review about the Saturn Quake. I don't think he smoke too much as well, but it's a matter of taste after all. Many people like the N64 Quake more, because of the interpolated textures, which I just don't understand. Everything looks so blurry, so soft, whereas the uninterpolated textures of Saturn games look much more crisper... yet pixelated.
Quake was incredible on the Saturn.

Quake 2 on N64 is another matter - it looked pretty good at the time - and it supports the expansion pak for slightly nicer visuals. A bit ropey looking now maybe but not bad at all - the upside of the slightly rough graphics was a smooth framerate. 4 player support too. By all accounts the PS1 version looked better than the N64 version - the developers having got total mastery of the PS1 at the time (although I hear that the loadtimes were murderous).

quake on n64 is a real cut down version it looks like someone turned the light on in every stage on quake 64 whereas saturn quake kept that dark shadowy feel on the pc version, the framerate is possibly lower on saturn but its never choppy and really the fact it was on the saturn a supposedly rubbish 3d machine according to the many naysayers of the time makes it even more amazing.
Quake 2 on n64 was great however and its multiplayer i felt was the best after goldeneyes.

The PS1 port of Quake II was an amazing achievement. It had 4-player splitscreen running at a rock solid 30fps, and it looked fantastic. The single player levels do have to load at certain points, but they aren't worse then other games of that era.
In general I'm not a fan of the blurry textures on the N64. I can't stand them.

N64 Quake 2 wasn't blurry - at least as far as I remember. The PAL N64 has a problem in that it doesn't output RGB SCART - only composite which made matters worse when developers misuse the anti-aliasing features of the console.
It also puts out s-video which clears a lot of problems up - though you see more jaggies.
You are maybe detecting that I'm a bit of a fan of the console......Like the PS1 & Saturn, many of its 3D games look rough now - but plenty of its games like Rayman2, Doom, Res Evil2 and Mario Tennis still look great.

Yeah, the N64 is an awesome console, I just prefer the Saturn. I read that article again and while I understand where he's comin' from, I still don't agree with him. Thanks for the feedback though guys.

Well... the N64 version of Quake does indeed run in a higher resolution than the Saturn version, so it's not really like he's making any grossly untrue claims there or anything

It might have ran on the quake engine most FPS games from that era ran either on the original engine or a modified version, even Half Life 2 has some of the original Quake code in it.
