after seeing stuff on youtube I got it since I thought this game is like a dream come true, knowing my gaming tastes. have been playing the first disc for 2 hours and read a little bit in a faq to understand all the items, upgrades and what have you (not that I understand any of it mind you), but holy shit!! 10/10 game this! the game is big it's almost too much for me with all the crossing paths and sometimes having 3 choices what to do (no idea what since it's japanese). I can't wait to play this with a friend. I really wished it had 4 player like in the arcades, but this is still amazing! Glad you're enjoying the game. To me DDC is a hiddrn gem and probably would have been my favorite beat 'em'up on the Saturn if it had save points and limited continues. I think the infinite continues reduces the need to play skillfully because there is no risk. Still excellent games though.

I just played through Tower of Doom, it's actually a really hard game. However, the unlimited continues does not encourage you to better yourself as a player. Neo Geo games are notorious for giving too few continues meaning you keep playing earlier parts of the game too often. However unlimited continues means you end up using lazy overly aggressive tactics to overcome the game. Even if you got 9 continues with 10 lives it still would have been better, as you could reduce the lives and continues as you improve. However, the one thing I really miss is not having the option to use 4 players.

This might be sacrilege, but I think it's probably better to just import the physical PS3 edition instead as you get interviews, behind the scenes documentation, concept art and 4-player local co-op.

I had heard there were a lot of loadtimes with these games - is that true?

I had heard there were a lot of loadtimes with these games - is that true? No more than usual. Sometimes the game loads in new sections of the same level, usually after some story info but the loading has never been so long to the point that it's taken me out of the game. Think Guardian Heroes but with a fraction of the text. The only downfall with the game is the unlimited continues and no save points. The lack of four player doesn't bother me these days as I rarely have 3 other people avaliable at the same time to the play the game anyway.

In parts of the Shadow of Mystara the loading is annoying. Especially on that river raft section.

The mid-level loading is a pain, totally ruins the flow of the game. It's worth playing, it's an ok port on the Saturn, it plays well enough and looks good, despite the loading issues, there are lots of things in its favour, like the replay value. I prefer Tenchi wo Kurau 2, it's a way smoother experience.

Seems we all have different tolerances for loadtimes. I don't have much tolerance of them myself I have to admit.
It's a genre I'm not that fond of but I always liked the look of the D&D games.
