I've got a pal Saturn and would like to play some import games, whats the easiest way to do it? Do I need a chip or action replay card?

Thanks for the help. Hmmmm I dont think I would be able to do that, i am useless at things like this. Probably easier to try to find a Japanese Saturn or a console already fitted with a mod switch. Shame it is not easy like the Dreamcast.

Japanese games will (for the most part) play just fine in 50hz if you don't want to mod it that way. You'll just lose about 17.5% of the speed the game is supposed to run at.

Is there someone who mods the saturn, like a place where I could ship mine to have it done? I'm nervous doing it myself.

Wow, he looks like he does great work. ^^ I wish he was closer to me, I'd give him my business. I sent him an email anyway, to see if they would be interested in overseas etc.

I don't have a Saturn (yet) but I believe the easiest way is to use an Action Replay cart. However, I also believe that for best results then importing a system ma be better (but this can be complicated and expensive)

I now have a UK, USA and JPN Saturn. Is it best to keep these so that I can play all regions or would you guys reccomend me getting an action replay cart and using the USA or JPN console as a multi region system?
The only downside I can see is games with Ram carts, so I guess keeping the Japanese system would make the most sense so that If im playinging a fighter that needs a ram cart I can just take the action reply out.

The Action Replay has a 4MB RAM card built in so you wouldn't need to take it out of the system to play fighters. The only exception to this KOF 95 which uses a custom ROM cartridge which stores game data which you must have inserted when you play the game.
I see little point in having a Japanese and US Saturn. Both run at 60Hz and you can use the Action Replay to run US games on a Japanese system and vice-versa and they'll run at the correct speed.

What about Pal games? Most of my collection is Pal so would it make sense to keep my Pal and one of the 60hz machines or will they work fine on the Japanese or US system?

I believe that some PAL titles were optimised to run at their correct speed (PAL games run 17.5% slower than their NTSC counterparts). These titles will run faster than intended on a Japanese / US NTSC console which could result in glitches. For this reason it's probably worth keeping your European console to play PAL games.

Yes, keep the PAL system for the PAL optimised games. I can't run my Lemmings right on my NTSC without glitches/freezing up. Edit: removed some misinformation I posted. It was quoted below but I was wrong.

I see little point in having a Japanese and US Saturn. If you want to play the US version of Panzer Dragoon Saga (which I do) you must have a US or region modded system. The game won't boot with a cartridge in the port. If you want to play the Shining Force III scenario's & Premium Disc properly (which I do) you must have a Japanese or region modded system. That's why I own both ;D I believe that some PAL titles were optimised to run at their correct speed (PAL games run 17.5% slower than their NTSC counterparts). I've heard that Saga boots fine with the 'ST KEY' cart but not action replay Can anybody confirm this? I have no ST Key to try with

I used a regular white Saturn with the US Saga and it loaded up fine. You've been full of helpful stuff (to me) lately Dixosaurus, thanks again!
