Does anyone else have this?
I got mine years ago to play some import games. It was fine at first but after a while it went maad.
It wouldn't let me play import games, I had to take it out of the slot just before the game loaded up properly.
And the memory on it messed up. I had multipul saves of SF3, but i went to see what ones they were once and the cart had made all of them the same save! I was gutted.
Anyhoo, was just wondering if anyone else had any faults with theirs? Or was mine just dodgy?

I've never had my AR cart corrupt my game saves. But also have had my official carts corrupt them. Because of this, I usually play whatever on my system RAM, and then back up once in a while (especially after unlocking secret characters, etc) to _both_ my AR and official RAM cart. It's kinda tedious I don't think I've EVER had my regular system RAM go corrupt. But of course, this isn't perfect either - considering your battery can run out.

I've never had a problem with my Action Replay 4m Plus with imports or game saves and I've had it for a few years now. One word of advice: put the cart in your Saturn and leave it there. Don't take it out and insert it all the time as it WILL wear down the cart slot of your Saturn and that can cause trouble it in reading the cart along with the game saves. My US Saturn won't use any carts of any type anymore without some serious effort. The third party carts have a slightly thicker contact edge so it's best to just get the cart working and leave it alone.

Maybe thats what messed it up. I had to take it out at the beginning of every game because it wouldn't play the import games, so that was probably what corrupted my saves.

ya my official memory cart is screwed now.. there's some saved files gone that almost made me cry
I believe its to do with usage, age and bit rot....
I haven't had this problem with my AR 4M+ yet its about 1 year old since taking it out and using it

Do these carts have any sort of internal battery?

Probably not, if save flash carts/cards of that era is any indication. (i.e. Playstation certainly didn't have one)

Playstation memory cards are flash based though, the internal memory in the Saturn is battery backed up RAM, I always assumed the carts were also?!

some do have internal memory..
and some have the all in one ie, 4MEG RAM upgrade, 8MEG save, ACTION REPLAY for codes and making the system regional free. Bare in mind these ones you cannot save directly onto the external. you have to copy it from the Saturn bios screens. if you want some pics of the menus im happy to dig up the digital camera again XD

This is the action replay plus 4M which I got from eBay. Its Asian but everything once you get it loaded up on the Saturn is in english. descriptions are a bit vague cause right now my brain feels frozen.. :/ The main menu 1st option 2nd option - selecting cheats, here you can select pre-programed codes or make your own sub menu - once selected the game title you enter this one 3rd option - memory manager

Cool screens. Mine had tons of space left on too.
Gunna buy a new one tho as my last one has gone west, also gunna buy a new Saturn so I can put a region and 50/60hz switch on it.

Usually its the fault of the Saturn's cartridge port. For example when I first got my PAR, it booted imports, even 4mb RAM games perfectly. But when I tried to transfer saves the whole system would freeze and wiped everything out of the Saturn's SRAM! Then I pulled the cart out of the Saturn a little and it worked perfectly.

yes I forgot about that! The saturn cartridge slot is EXTREMELY fussy. I think its needs perfect allignment for it to recognise there is a cartridge connected to it..
I always thought Sega should have used the same cartridge port/connector as the megadrive/genesis.
