the 2nd version blows the old version away.
That's not to say that the old one is, bad, it's just that the new version is my favorite pad of all time.

I love the MkI pad cos it was the first one I got with my Saturn, I also like the way it feels in my hands. The only thing I would change would be to improve the responsiveness (is that even a word?) of the shoulder buttons.

Never used the Mk1 controller, so its the Mk2 all the way for me.

I prefer the thicker Model 1 for everything but fighting games. It just fills my hands better.

I like the mk1 pad for shooters, but for fighting games, the mk2 is the king. Since I got the white Saturn I've been using this mk2 white pad, and the more I use it, the more I like it. I have noticed that when I play shooters for more than an hour at a time, the mk1 pad makes my hand less tired.
Okay enough rambling. I love the white Saturn and there's no white mk1 so my vote goes to the mk2 pad.

I actually prefer the d-pad on the original but in general, the mk.2 gets my vote for all round ergonomics

Mk I is a bit of a clunky beast. Ergonomically speaking the MK II is better by design. D pad on the MK II is the best feel of any D pad ever designed.

D pad on the MK II is the best feel of any D pad ever designed. I think the mk.1 D-pad is tons better. It brings back all those warm VF and Daytonaaaaaaaa! memories.

The MK1 does look cool though.
Like something that should have been in Red Dwarf.

I didn't think that many people really liked the chunkosaurus rex MK I controller. I haven't tried one of them, but I think I'll stick the three MK II gamepads I have sitting around the ol' game room.

Mark 2 simply because the wireless controllers weren't ever released as a Mark 1.

Hard choice I think I will have to go with the Mark 2 in general...
