Open it up and check the lettering on the motherboard for the model number, I'm starting to think there is a common problem with all the Rev. A9 motherboards

Perhaps dried up capacitors? This is a fairly common problem from that time period-- e.g. it often causes the audio amp for CD audio on the PC-Engine Duo to fail and produce barely audible music, and is fixable with just a couple capacitors swapped out. I imagine some poking around with a multimeter could determine the culprits, but it would be a lot of poking around since a crash during boot could be ANY functional block of the machine, not as easy to narrow down as the Duo, to the audio subsystem.
