Ok, now I often play imports on my modded European Model 1 Saturn, however, recently I tried to play Virtua Fighter Remix (Japanese Netlink version) and it gets to the LISCENCED BY SEGA screen, then the screen flashes white, and it goes back to the BIOS with "Cartridge not Suitable For This System" on the screen.
The console still happilly plays all my other imports :S
Any ideas?
It's modded using a "Megadrive pad" chip mod, where instead of having a physical switch, a chip from an MD pad is used and wired to the disc lid so that it changes the region depending whether or not you switch the console on with the lid open or not (DIY job).

That's pretty weird. What does the BIOS revision number say on the setting screen? I suppose it should say NTSC-1-v1.xxx when you have it to the correct setting to play JP Virtua Fighter (where xxx should be 1.00a for US/EU models).

Hmm I tried it in SSF with the Region setting set to Japan, same thing happened. I assume the disc is faulty, which is odd, as it is in immaculate condition, must be heat damage or something. Oh well, I'll keep the box, spare cd cases are never a bad thing to have about, nor are coasters. I have VF PC anyway so it's no biggie (same game)

You can find out what region the disc is set to by using one of the region patchers (I've only used satconv, but there's saturn region patcher as well).
It's mega-rare to have a pressed-disc to have problems, but I guess it's not unheard of.
