So after reading the "best undiscovered game" thread, I decided to give this one a go. I've previously played the arcade version one time, and I recall it being pretty cool, with an excellent techno soundtrack (if you're into that) and decent graphics for its time.
Thankfully, the soundtrack is still awesome.
...However, the graphics are absolute garbage. Things are so choppy and pop-ups are downright annoying. If you're using the driver's seat-POV, you really can't tell which way the track is going at all. Behind-the-car POV is a bit better, but still a bit hard to make out what the hell is going on.
As far as controls go, it seems a bit too sensitive to my analog pads, but I think this is something I can adjust/get used to.
Considering that there are some excellent looking 3D games on the Saturn like Virtua Fighter 2 and Last Bronx, it's games like this I can imagine that gave a Saturn a bad rep for 3D capabilities.
All that considered, I actually didn't _hate_ the game. The excellent tunes itself gave a good sense of speed, and made me want to go for another round. The tracks are just challenging enough to make you want to go for another spin.
Definitely a notch below something like Sega Rally Championship, but this might be a game where it could grow on me. I'll see...

its not bad..
You have to adjust the sensitivity of the analogue because its set up for the steering wheel i guess...
Ya the frame rate is bad but you suppose to race really fast.

One day I will probably buy it from Gamestation for a pound or so.
And probably something else just for the sake of it.
Got SEGA Rally from there for 20p ages back, still not played it tho.

What?! my god man, play it right now!
It's still the most phisically accurate rally game I have ever played, it was heavilly endorsed by a number of pro rally drivers after it's release. The only gripe I have with it is there's only initially 2 cars and 3 courses, with two extra cars and another course to be unlocked.

I compare Saturn racing games to the Playstation ones, and I can only sigh... I must've spend tons of hours on Gran Turismo 2, but haven't really put too much time into Saturn ones.
...Oh wait, that's a lie. I had a pretty good time unlocking the horses for Daytona. But the game itself isn't too great.

I can't stand Daytona USA, I hate that type of racing in real life, so a computer game of it just has no appeal to me. GT2 was an exceptional game, but do bare in mind that it came out in '99 and the Saturn was well and truely dead in the water.

No way man! Daytona USA was ace!
I well prefer arcadey racers, GT2 i bought, but got bored of it quite easy.
Bought SEGA GT too and got bored of that. Their to simulationey, especially the super fast cars, you crash when going straight!
Arcade racers like Daytona, PGR and Burnout are for me.

Daytona was just that. Good arcade-fun. It's nothing like the real thing of course -- even the tracks. These tracks actually have right turns! (though I think real NASCAR, or NECKAR, as I like to say , has one or two road courses on its schedule as well...) Daytona didn't look so hot, but Daytona: CCE actually looked much improved over the original. But I hear that the Japanese release controls much better - it actually came out after the US release, and they supposedly touched it up a bit.

To me Sega Rally is still the best racing game out there (alon with F-Zero GX on Gamecube).
Brilliant handling and one of the best game soundtracks ever. Some people complained about only 4 tracks being available... trying to beat your lap times is what made this game last so long for me, if a game has too many tracks you care less.

Yes Sega Rally is a good enough reason to own a Saturn by itself.

Just won a copy of Touring Car on eBay for the princely sum of £2.88! ;D Almost makes up for missing out on Sonic R by twenty pence! Now if I win the copy of Nights I am watching it will be a good day!
