I'm still smashing my way through Shining Force 3, it's become one of my favourite TRPGs now. It's been interesting how the units have developed for me e.g early on Eldar was so weak she was useless but is now a strong unit for me and Cybel who was a young Dantares is now possibly my weakest and most unreliable (in the first team). Awesome to hear. I also couldn't believe how much I liked the game when I played it for the first time last year. I never really liked TRPGs ever but just about everything in SFIII worked for me. Its simple, not overdone with stats, looks great, plays great. I've been trying to get around to burning the translations of S2 and S3 but havent had the time. Very excited to play both of those for the full SFIII experience. The amazing thing about SFIII that we got in the west is that on its own its an amazing game with 40 hours of gameplay. A top 10 title by itself which is why I can't wait to play the other 2 parts. I've heard the game somehow got even better graphically which is exciting.

Played quite a bit of Stellar Assault SS after finding out that it did not support the Mission Stick. It's a very nice game aand a shame that you can't use the stick for it. My hand was cramping after the second level using the pad.

Playing Tomb Raider again. Now finished with the first level in Peru (far, I know). Finally broke down and started using a walk through, less because I didn't know where to go and more because of "how the heck do I get over there". I think with a little patience I'll enjoy it, and probably feel more open about getting other tank control games like Resident Evil and Dino Crisis.

The controls aren't as difficult to get to grips with as you initially expect. Once you get your head around how tank movement works, you'll be fine. The game has auto aim and is pretty generous (for the most part!) with making your shots hit. There's also less need to fumble around with the controls like in Tomb Raider, as there's no platforming or anything. The main issue is during most of the boss fights. Quick turn would have been great in this one (it gets introduced later). I recommend giving it a shot once you finally finish TR (although that game is really long). It's pretty cheap to pick up too, if you don't already on it.

The Saturn copy doesn't seem to be too cheap sadly, it's $30+ for a disc only copy now. I could get the PSN version of the PS1 copy for $10, but I'll probably bite the bullet and get it for Saturn. I've played a little of RE5 and a few minutes of Code Veronica, that's the extent of my RE experience.

Wow, that's pretty pricey. I picked up a plastic case version of it in mint condition for 20 euros. And that was from a crappy, expensive retro game store. The NTSC version must be a bit harder to come by.
RE5 isn't really a clear indication of the older stuff (it's just an action game), but CVX kinda is. CVX is a little tighter than the original (but it is the fourth game), but has lots of similarities in play style. The original definitely has less obtuse puzzles though, and the storyline is a bit less .... mental. I love the story of CV, but it just gets progressively more insane every minute.

Its got some unique settings and fun puzzles. Its not an easy game and there will be some needed walkthru looks but I did most of the game a couple years back without one. And like Adam said, Resident Evil is much more fluid than even TR. The Saturn version of RE is excellent too. Capcom did a conversion that was tailored to the Saturns hardware and it came out great. I consider it possibly my favorite Saturn title but don't really make numbered lists. Dino Crisis is an all time favorite as well. Its basically RE2 with dinosaurs. Loved it. I prefer the original PS1 version over the DC version as I had that one when as a kid.

Yeah, the whole Shining Force subseries dramatically stands out from other Tactical RPGs for its simplicity. It's a great series for being introduced to Tactical RPGs, while at the same time presenting enough challenge (in most installments, anyway) to interest Tactical RPG veterans. And yes, the SF3 graphics are improved in subsequent scenarios. It's not very noticeable in Scenario 2, if at all, but Scenario 3 really is much sharper looking. Great to hear you're enjoying SF3, Shinra. I've played through the game twice, so I've not only shared your experience with Eldar, I've seen it in reverse: When I played the game a second time, I'd been so used to the idea of Eldar being completely awesome that it took me aback when I rediscovered that she does start out with weak stats and you have to care for her for a little while.

martiniii I agree it's simpler in ways but also requires a different kind of planning since strengths and weaknesses are not obvious as they are in fire emblem. RAIN THUNDER. Sadly the second to last battle is not a great one in my opinion. My second force was not in any position to open the dam the proper way. Penn was an unprompted level 1 and the others were weaklings too. I couldn't be bothered grinding for hours to get them near usable so I had to cheese the fight using Fynndings danse macabre on giga breaker. Edit: Also this happened today:

Just had a nice little power hour of Final Fight Revenge and Golden Axe:The Duel. It's so refreshing when you play a Fighting game where the AI is more than competent.

I have only heard mediocre things but I suppose most people just gripe that we didnt get a real Golden Axe game instead.

Both Golden Axe: The Duel & Final Fight Revenge suffer from the Contra: Legacy of War Syndrome as the negativity is mainly down to the gripes of others that were expecting a classic Beat 'em' Up. It's a decent fighting game but not exceptional. Interesting enough but not note worthy. Outstanding 2D graphics, Enticing characters and an efficient AI are the standouts of the game. If I was to rate it, I'd give it 6.5/10
