I was actually pretty wowed by Tomb Raider's ending. I wish more video games had interactive endings like that; from the very beginning of the game, the exploration and environments in Tomb Raider felt like much more of a reward than the FMV cutscenes (and this coming from a guy who frickin' loves FMV). REALLY! A pyramid explodes and she swims to a speed boat and all that lasts for less than a minute. Of course its all subjective but I struggle to see what it is you could like about a 45 second FMV ending. It's ridiculously underwhelming. Even putting aside what the game demands on a player, that ending is below standards for any game. SPOILERS!!! Kidding I haven't finished the saturn version yet but did do the anniversary edition on Xbox 360.

Besides, I prefer a good ending to a long ending. That's why, to me, Grandia II's ending is one of the worst video game endings of all time, and the optimal ending of I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream is one of the best.

Sych I meant to ask you what does that dialogue mean underneath your profile signature? I know this is off topic but I've always wondered what it meant.

Don't get me wrong, I love the final level and everything leading up to the ending, including getting out the pyramid but the ending itself was a wet blanket. But its horses for courses I guess. Sych I meant to ask you what does that dialogue mean underneath your profile signature? I know this is off topic but I've always wondered what it meant. That's a little in joke pertaining to Enemy Zero. Unless you've played the game you won't get the reference.

So far tonight I've had another quick go on Xmas Nights, Tohshinden, Dead or Alive, Daytona CE and Actua Golf. All on original hardware. On GPD, I've played Shining Force 3, Darius Gaiden and Kingdom Grand Prix.

In a word - shite.
It looks terrible and is unresponsive and laggy. But it gets a spin every now and then just for variety. Then I put VF2 in and all is well again.

There are two versions of Toshinden for the SS : Ura and S.
I read one of them is awful while the other is quite enjoyable. Which version are you mentionning rossi ?

I don't remember off the top of my head, tbh. I will say though that it's the JP version, played on a JP model 1 machine.

I've been playing Doom on the Saturn and .... it's not so bad (I'm playing JP). I figured right off the bat that jumping into Ultra Violent is probably not a wise idea with both the controls and questionable framerate, so I lowered the difficulty a tad and I've been having a lot of fun. It's Doom so it's still enjoyable and the 2D controller controls are alright too. The framerate doesn't seem so bad from what I've played of Ultimate Doom, but Doom 2 seems a lot more sluggish. Still playable at the moment, but I can see that getting a lot worse in later levels.
I was expecting an unplayable mess, but it's .... fine. I'm having fun with it, despite the problems. I think that if the price of Doom was a lot lower, I would even go as far as to recommend it to Saturn owners who like FPS and horror games. As it is though, this is more for die hard fans of both.

At the time, Doom was being compared to the PS version and it really did fail in every aspect. By comparison. But viewed as a standalone game it's really not as bad as the shade it received.
There are some frame rate issues later on but there are worse games.

Yeah, it's a shitty port job and compared to other versions (or even stuff like Quake on the Saturn, or even Hexen) it doesn't perform well. But yeah, what I've played so far is playable at least. Bar that one bit on Tricks and Traps, but that's more of a control issue than anything.

I've been kicking around picking that up, as I really like the original Doom and even don't mind the 32X version, but that at least has a better frame rate than the Saturn port.

The Saturn port was messed up (well documented what happened in other threads) and is probably the worst port released. Even the Japanese version that I own (which was supposed to be a slight bump in performance) is a hot mess. Since its one of my favorite games of all time I own every version simply to have it.

Bar that one bit on Tricks and Traps, but that's more of a control issue than anything. The late date it came out at surely didn't help either. By 1997 Doom had already come out for practically every console under the sun, reviewers were sick of it, it was no longer the cutting edge game it was back in 1993, and the Saturn had already gotten Powerslave and Alien Trilogy, while the Saturn version of Hexen came out in the same month. And yeah, I've enjoyed Saturn Doom myself. I got myself a disc-only copy before the prices on it went even crazier, so it didn't set me back much, and it's fun just having a passable version of Doom that I can play with a Saturn controller. I actually find the darkness of some of the levels to be a much bigger annoyance than the frame rate, though I guess that was a trend at the time; right now I happen to be playing another game that came out in 1997, Lands of Lore: Guardians of Destiny, half the levels of which are too dark to see properly in.
