For the longest time, I hadn't been able to find any working download links for the homebrew game Police Officer Smith, but recently someone uploaded the C4 2007 games to a certain site which shall go unnamed to comply with forum rules. Anyway, it's the boot disc version that houses most of the games on a single disc (except for two which need to be on separate discs of their own). Problem is that I just can't get the boot disc to launch the games. The launcher itself loads, plays music, and lets you cycle through the games, but that's pretty much it. I haven't dug out a real Saturn to test it yet, but with SSF and Yabause, it makes the emulators think the CD drive is open as soon as you launch a game.
I was wondering if anyone out there might have the standalone version of POS. That way I don't have to deal with the launcher.

While distribution of the homebrew title in question is legal, there's a whole bunch of other content on that site which technically should not be there. Get my drift?

That's the one tied to the launcher.

Question for you guys, did this game ever get finished? I remember seeing a demo on youtube years back. Really liked the idea of a new playable Saturn game. Looked decent as far as a point and click goes.

Looked decent as far as a point and click goes. I don't believe so. Last thing on it that I remember seeing was that the creator had come up with a way to make the demo bootable via the cartridge slot. After that, nothing.

Thats too bad. Felt like the furthest anyone had got on Saturn homebrew programming. Figure if you got that far...

The most exciting prospect for me was the cartridge, that could have paved the way for an everdrive type device all but negating the use of our rapidly aging Saturn lasers.

If the cart could incorporate the functionality of the AR 4in1 with the addition of the functionality of the Everdrive with a top loading SD slot there would never be any reason to remove the cart.
Of course I'm clutching at straws here.
I would dearly love some sort of SD loader solution for the Saturn though.

If Rockin'-B ever Kickstarted a project like that, I'd toss at least $100 at him. [Edit]: Just go to thinking about the Saturn USB Datalink. Apparently it can load some basic homebrew games. Perhaps there's potential for it to do more...

Given that the AR cart firmware executes on boot up before loading from the CD drive I would say at a guess that another device could boot up in the same way , subsequently allowing software (games) to be loaded from solid state media.
AR cheats soft mod the console by pushing data to specified locations in RAM. If it were possible to in some way alter RAM based code that accesses the CD ROM then it could be altered to access solid state media instead - that would remove the need for the CD drive.
However CD access calls in the game code are likely to be implemented as calls to firmware in ROM and executed there. Since ROM cannot be changed (unless you create a new ROM chip with altered code) the only chance of removing the need for a CD drive is that a call to CD access routines result in callout from the ROM to code in RAM for CD access. That may be possible - some architectures on boot might copy ROM contents to low memory addresses in RAM (sometimes called zero page RAM which runs faster because the addressing can be optimised) - if that were the case then it could be redirected to special code to load games from solid state media.
If on the other hand the CD access code in the game is stored in RAM then it could be replaced with calls to custom code instead of ROM calls using a similar mechanism as that used by cheat codes that would also remove the need for the CD drive, but it would require every CD access call in the code to be replaced and that might not be feasible or introduce an overhead that would affect gameplay.
