Just finished this game, it was great So worth the money I paid for (in my opinion) with it being PAL region. SPOILER:My only criticism is that there was no real end boss, more of just a ordinary stage and that we didn't see a cut scene or fight in the tournament against the other opponents. Overall, definant 10/10 Interested to see what others have to say

How much text is in this game? I've been tempted to pick it up but will probably go for the somewhat cheaper Japanese version if it will offer a similar experience.

I've watched videos of this game before, just to watch and see what it's all about, and it's never really appealed to me.
I wouldn't like the platformer bits nor do I like cutesy type/style games either so... nah. Don't think it's my bag. Even less so at those crazy-daft prices...

I couldn't get into this. Like Neo I'm not too hyped about overly cute graphics (although they are admittedly very well drawn) and the gameplay itself doesn't intrigue me that much. Even the shmup levels I played seemed underwhelming.
I kind of want to give it another shot at some point, but... eh.

If you aren't interested in this game, then you can save yourself a bit of cash. I had a phase at the beginning of collecting Saturn games to collect rare and expensive titles, this was one of them and in my opinion I think it is worth the money

Watching videos of this game gives the illusion that it's quite a simple affair running at a pedestrian pace. Though the wayward player movement coupled with a 'shift' type of scrolling can make some platform jumps very tricky.

I enjoy it! The first is better and I do think they went in the wrong direction with the series but 2 is still fun.

Cute games are quite often hard as nails...................
That said, this particular game never impressed me in either the platform or shmup stages.

We tend to have similar tastes/opinions on such things. So, I'm gonna guess that this is how this game would have left me feeling too (having never played it myself).

I dislike the odd collision boxes and the fact that it is so difficult to gain momentum (which can make the platforming difficult). But the game is just so ridiculously absurdly cute that I can't hate it no matter the faults. Or even the pricetag. That said, this particular game never impressed me in either the platform or shmup stages. The graphics are pretty impressive in my opinion. Lots of giant, well animated, colorful sprites, even some lightning/transparency effects. A true 32bit platform game.

Even though it's in my collection, it's an expensive trophy and gets no love................ Think I'll go play some Gokuraku chuuka taisen then......................

Rise from your grave!
I'm resurrecting this dead thread because I got Keio 2 for Christmas, and I've played through the first few stages (up to the boss that starts off like the level 1 shinobi X boss)
Oh my God. I am so surprised by how damn good this game is. It looked like a slow, average platformer from the bits and pieces I saw and so I was never that keen on getting it asap. However, I got it as part of a Saturn bundle for a dirt cheap price so jumped at the opportunity. I'm glad I did.
First of all, the pace isn't really that slow. It works like the Tiny Toons game on the Mega Drive, where you accelerate fast into a speedy run. You also have access to weapons, which are kinda like the Sonic rings in that you are invincible once you have it as long as you pick it up again after you get hit (getting hit makes you drop the weapon).
Anyway, the platforming levels are pretty fun with nice gimmicks, the shmup stage that I encountered was not obnoxious in any way, and it even had bonus stuff like a rollercoaster ride (which was awesome). The bosses too are weird as hell, and everything just looks so beautiful and very japanese. To be honest, this game is kinda what I expected from Treasure with Silhouette Mirage.
This game is on track to being my second fave Saturn game, and I can't recommend it enough. The game's story is pretty basic and is just something to guide the game along a path, so opting for the japanese version won't cause any problems.
The one thing you NEED to do though, is ensure that you go into the options and set the auto save to ON before you start playing. That way you can continue the game from where you left off when you want.

Glad you like it Adam. Personally between the 2 cartoony platformers we got in the west Im much more about Astal (although totally different games). I also much prefer the first Keio on Sega CD as its a shooter. I was actually kinda disappointing when I found out this wasn't also a shooter. Ill have to give it another try down the road if I get access to it again.

Lol necro-posting is ace Keio 2 is a fantastic, smooth game. It looks very appealing but I find it a bit unfair and frustrating. That doesn't stop me coming back to it again and again though. I love the shmup sections.
