Possibly, the textures were not filtered at all, but if you were to blur a texture file heavily before you implemented it, the nearest-neighbour scaling becomes less obvious, this can be seen in Sonic R and quite a lot of other later generation 32-Bit titles, even more so on PS1.
The "Emerald Dragon" the 32x version of Panzer Dragoon, right?

I hate to bring up such a (relatively) old topic, but I've recently acquired scans from a German magazine that prominently feature the high resolution Daytona USA prototype for Saturn. Before you start asking, they'll be forming the centrepiece of an upcoming article on the subject I'm planning for my upcoming project. However, all this is way off in the distance so be patient with me... it will be worth hanging around for - I can assure you of that!

I can't really give a specific date of when my project will be finished, though I can guarantee that your patience will be rewarded with this one. Also, you were absolutely right - there will indeed be some Lobotomy related goodness involved! The problem is that I've received many setbacks, but hopefully the end product is going to be worth it, right? Whatever happens, most Saturn fans will certainly love it...

Glad you bumped this topic, a lot of great info here. Looking forward to those developments you're talking about. I wish they would have remixed the first Daytona. It just looks so bad, really, with all that popping up and barebones features. The House of the Dead even feels more complete by comparison. Virtua Fighter was rushed, but at least it felt complete and played great. Daytona is just sloppy.

There are quite a few shots of Daytona Hi-Res in a Saturn+ writeup where I remember is being referred to as 'Daytona Remix' I will have a dig after lunch for the offending issue..
