DC version of Z3 was so disappointing. Its based off of SFZ3: Upper on the Naomi, which has oddly sized sprites, and messed up combos when compared to the original CPS2 version. That version is garbage for anyone that wants to play competitively.

I must say after playing a lot of SFZ3 today I now believe it to be superior to SFZ2! I forgot how nice the persentation was nice new backgrounds all the world warriors in it along with the new challengers more modes for more long gevity!
You will pay a heafy price for it with or without the 4mb ram cart but its worth it! Bear in mind that you DO need the 4MB cart to play this!

I know that Alpha 3 came out for the Saturn but the price tag is a little off pointing for the game considering I already own it for the ps1 and ps2.... I already own Alpha 2 as well but Alpha 2 is so cheap on the Saturn might as well get it. Perhaps someday I will invest in the Saturn Alpha 3 I also have Alpha 3 for PS1 and whilst I do play it from time to time, it's a piss poor conversion missing loads of animation frames with atrocious loading times and it's also a bit buggy. Yeah, SFZ3 is expensive, but if you want quality you have to pay, especially if it's a rare game to boot. SFZ3 is my top prority at the mo and definitely my next major purchase, my mate has it and it bloody rules, I kid ye not, does not compare to the crud PS1 iteration but thats a no brainer........ I agree with what your saying completely and some day perhaps I will get it. Not at the moment now. I am also well awair of how cruddy the ps1 version is. Does anyone know how the quality holds on the ps2 release of Street Fighter Anthology? (mainly speaking of Alpha 3)

Gameplay wise its almost perfect. You even get control of the arcade dipswitches which is a nice extra. However, the resolution is upscaled a bit. It plays fine, but the Saturn port looks cleaner and is easier on the eyes. PS2 version is also just the arcade game (with console characters), all the extra modes like World Tour are not available.

If you really REALLY want a Playstation branded version of street fighter alpha 3 I would ge the PSP version! its not a patch on the Saturn version but it does have world tour modes and what have you.

That version is garbage for anyone that wants to play competitively. Isn't there an option to turn the "Saikyo Dojo" upgrades off in the option menu? As for oddly sized sprites... well I can live with that, since it's not like they're horribly distorted or anything, although I can understand to an element why it may effect gameplay. Competitive players are defaulted into playing V-ISM anyway because it has advantages over the other 2 :/ Oddly enough the GBA version of SFA3 was actually called "Upper". I often wonder what possessed them to change their imaginative naming convention of titles such as "Dash", "Turbo" "Upper" and "Gold" for the Dreamcast edition xP

Oddly enough the GBA version of SFA3 was actually called "Upper". Really? there's certainly no evidence of that anywhere on it. "Upper" is the small arrow pointing up at the end of the game logo. In the same way that "Street Fighter II Dash", literally had a dash at the end of the logo.

Bizarre... are you playing the UK version? I notice they removed "Saikyo Dojo" from the UK release of the Dreamcast game also. Also Superdeadite, according to Wikipedia Upper was based on Saikyo, not the other way around :/ Altohugh Wiki is often wrong. ;D Here is wiki's list of the differences between the versions: * When playing as T. Hawk, the battle between him and Juni differs slightly on the PlayStation version. The battle takes place at night instead of day and "Seek No Escape" plays rather than "High-Tech". * On the PlayStation version, all the in-game text is in red. * As with the PlayStation version of Street Fighter Alpha 2, the PlayStation version of Street Fighter Alpha 3 has all frames of animation present if two of the same character fight each other. * The music on the Saturn version fades prematurely before and after the battle. * The music on the U.S. Dreamcast version is not in stereo. * Each character still has their respective boss character even though there is no boss dialogue on the Gameboy Advance version. * On the Game Boy Advance version, although Yun's story states that he's searching for Fei Long, his second boss is Evil Ryu. On the PSP, Fei Long is the second boss. * The Game Boy Advance version of Evil Ryu's ending is the only version that stays consistent with the actual area they fight in. * All the new characters on the PSP version do not have their own stage. Eagle shares his stage with Birdie, Maki shares her stage with Guy, and Yun shares his stage with Fei Long. A random stage is generated when fighting against Ingrid. * The PSP version of the game is the only version that pits all the characters against both new and older ones. In all other versions, older characters would retain their random line up from the original arcade version while the new characters fought against everyone. * The PSP version has more gameplay modes than any other version and is thought by many to be the most 'complete' and greatest conversion of the game due to the extra modes and characters. However, there is some criticism that the game is awkward to play given the PSP's small buttons being placed so close to one another. Interesting that the US Dreamcast version has Mono music I wonder what their logic behind that one was.

and to complete the set: Darkstalkers is just awesome! and so too is Marvel vs Streetfighter. I think Capcom's weakest ports are probably Mavel Super Heroes and the Street Fighter II Turbo X had some bizarre frame rate issues which are very minor but still it bugged me a lot!
