Despite its few flaws, this is a killer of a game. My friends and I, we sank hundreds and hunderds hours into this beast. And yes, that FMV intro, I was so happy and proud back then when I saw it for the first time as it proved that Saturn was very well capable of fine FMV's without the support from the MPEG2 cartridge.

You can change outfits by selecting your fighter with either A or C or X or Z in that order. Most characters only have two (A and C), but some have three or even four. For some characters, the extra outfits are unlockables (Honey, Mr. Meat, AM2 Palm Tree). Thanks! I'd never have guessed that that's how you select outfits. I blitzed through the rest of the courses. I figured it would be redundant to go through the Virtua Fighter course with one of the Virtuas, since I have Virtua Fighter 2, and none of the Vipers look particularly appealing to me, so I went with a joke character, Kumachan. ...Good grief. No points of articulation at all? In addition to looking terrible, it makes it hard to execute moves, since you can't see what Kumachan is doing, meaning you can't determine the reach or targeting of his moves. I still beat the course in under seven minutes, though I couldn't say how. Then since the Vipers and Girls courses largely repeat the cast of the Novices course, I again went with someone other than Lion - another old favorite, Pai. Bashing the Vipers through the walls of their arenas was a hoot. Although after playing through nine courses, I've grown suspicious at how much more often the girls' armor breaks off than the guys' armor. I took the newly unlocked Janet into the Muscle course, eager to try her out. Her move set was surprisingly easy to pick up on, though I never figured out how to fire her gun. Love the character model and arena, too. Went back to Lion and his default costume, giving him a thorough run in the training mode. I really like how this mode is set up; I had assumed I would have to keep the manual open to the moves list, the way I did in Virtua Fighter 2. However, it soon became apparent that there are fine points to the timing and positioning of the moves which neither the manual nor the training mode explain. This made me appreciate anew how much work and attention to detail must have gone into designing and programming the control inputs for the numerous Virtua Fighter moves; most developers would have thrown their hands up and said, "Forget it, if we're going to put in all these moves we'll need six action buttons." But I do wish they made it easier to learn them all. Now fully trained, I took Lion through the next three courses and kicked major butt, clocking in at just over five and a half minutes on the Bosses course. The fight with Siba was a huge thrill; though I beat him in two rounds, during both rounds there was a point where I had just a sliver of health left while he had over 2/3. Since Siba was so cool to fight, I took him to the Secret course. Unfortunately, his moves weren't as easy to pick up as the other characters I've used. I never even got to use his sword, which was practically all he used when I fought him. Still fun, though. I laughed out loud when, in the middle of the fight with Kids Sarah, I executed the move where he sits his opponent down in his lap. Figures I'd pull that move off for the first time while fighting one of the kid characters! I soon got another good laugh when the Hornet ran its wheels all over his face. Hysterical stuff. Now to try out the survival mode... and hopefully, convince one of the other members of the household to play some matches with me.

It's a game like Fighters Megamix that makes me wish I could get along with the genre. Versus fighting just doesn't click with me. I've had some fun with 2D games like Streetfighter and Mortal Kombat but that has been casual and usually with 2 players.
FM looks to have lots of nice content to present different challenges. And the character rosters in fighting games also offer huge amounts of replay.

It's easy to get a handle of the basics, and there's more to it than just spamming the strongest attacks. I ran the training mode again and found myself pitted against Deku instead of the training droid, something I found is already documented in the site zyrobs linked to. I wonder if this was deliberately stuck in there to surprise the player or is just a glitch? Tried out survival mode... Dang, I would never have guessed it could be so hard to just stay alive for three minutes! I beat the best score with no trouble, despite never lasting longer than two minutes and ten seconds.

Survival mode is trivial once you unlock Janet and Rentahero. Use b,f,G+K (I think) with Janet for the gun, and b,bf,f,P with Rentahero for a ground shockwave.

I tried repeating the conditions listed on that site many times, and I still couldn't get the training opponent to switch from Balls to Deku with any consistency. This did eventually happen, but I'm not sure what exactly caused it (for the sake of accuracy, I'd like to know how it's really done). Also, there appears to be some confusion about how to enable the Survival Mode stage select - I saw a few other sources describe this as only requiring you to complete Survival Mode ten times, which worked for me!
P.S. While it's only a minor detail, Mr. Meat definitely becomes available once you've booted the game 29 times and not 30 as documented in a few places.

I have not played it yet but want to add it to my Collection soon to complete my 3d Fighting set of Saturn games. So far I only own Last Bronx and DOA . Waiting now for Vitua Fighter 2 and fighing vipers. FMM will be ordered soon after it.
