Well, that depends. If you mean Best 2D games on the Saturn, that's a good question. (I'm going to assume that you are asking that, since you're on the Saturn boards, posting in the forum about Saturn games). Okay so, now that we got that out of the way... Do you mean games that have 2D graphics only? Or can we include games set in 2D space, but with 3D graphics? Context is very important. Anyway, I'm gonna go with "2D graphics only". And since I've talked about the fighters long enough, I'm gonna nominate "Detana Twinbee Yahho Deluxe Pack". It stars Twinbee, a loveable airship with hands and feet. It's hard. It's unique looking. It has an interesting power-up mechanic. It has two different games on one disc - AND - it's cute as a button. Great 2D Saturn game.

I've always loved "Magic Knight RayEarth" visuals, they're so crisp and fluid. It just begs you to play and complete it. Also I remember reading about a preview of it in one of my video game magazines back then (GameFan perhaps) loved it since. Sexy jump from simple 16-bit graphics too.

Yeah, Princess Crown is on my list. It looks like the perfect game for little girls, and though I'm not one of those, I'd like to control that little warrior. Her sprite looks great. I don't own this gem, but I've heard it's a good one: Silhouette MIrage. A platformer / run-and-gunner I completely forgot about. youtu.be/DZ8_xDqTqFs

Lush backgrounds and giant bosses as well! This was the game that convinced me to buy Sony PlayStation back in 1998. I was at my friends house and he was into JPN titles, and the first two I was introduced to was Trap Gunner, and Silhouette Mirage. Would love to own a Saturn copy of it. Still have my PS1 copy til this day ^^

I'm partial to Street Fighter Alpha 2 (awesome 2 player action) and Keio Flying Squadron 2 (cute platformer and shooter).

As much as I wanna say something like Battle Garegga or one of the really nice looking fighting games on the system... I'mma have to give my vote to the much unknown Nanatsu Kaze no Shima Monogatari. The animation and attention to detail is unreal and really brings the world to life. Too bad I can't play through it due to the heavy language barrier. But look up some YouTube videos. It drops my jaw every time. Honorable mention being Dinosaur Island. It wasn't the winner since it isn't really a game, but rather a fully animated anime with choices you can make here and there, done entirely in sprites, with next to no noticeable loading times. Not a single FMV in the whole thing. www.youtube.com/watch?v=-TtEQOR6ce8

Mega Man X4 has always been one of the system's 2D highlights for me. Just so colorful and energetic in its animation. A good dose of simply mammoth enemies makes it utterly impressive to the eye. I tremble a little every time I come face-to-face with General. This one is a pick that is particular to me rather than one which your average Saturn fan would rave about, but nonetheless, I must put in a word for Body Special 264. Live action FMV puzzles - I still can't get over how cool that looks. Obviously screenshots can't do it justice, but since pics were requested, here you go: This raises the question of what you mean by "2D graphics", since there's no objective definition of what 2D is versus 3D when it comes to computer graphics. They're all projected onto a two-dimensional screen, so strictly speaking all video game graphics are 2D. On the other end, if you define 2D vs. 3D based on the illusion the game creates, then the overwhelming majority of games have 3D graphics, as even the likes of Super Mario Bros. for the NES and Girl's Garden for the SG-1000 create the impression of a three dimensional world. Anyway, the specific question I'm pondering is where you would say full motion video falls as far as 2D vs. 3D. I'm going with the assumption that live action FMV is 2D, since it projects a 2D recording, even though the people and objects recorded are obviously 3D. I'd also qualify games like Strahl as 2D, since again it projects video of 2D illustrations. Games like Lunacy/Torico and D I would consider 3D, though, since the video is of 3D computer models.
